HEAT WARNING FOR KINGSTON AND AREA
Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Kingston and the surrounding area.  Temperatures are expected to soar to 31 degrees today, with a humidex making it feel more like mid to high 30s.  Residents are reminded to drink plenty of liquids to decrease the risk of dehydration, and to never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle or in direct sunlight. We should a bit of a reprieve tomorrow, with the forecast calling for afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.

WELLS RUN DRY/SHORT BOATING SEASON
GE SmartWater – cleanest tasting water offers pure and clean water to people on one side .Whereas on other side the dry hot summer means some wells are running dry.Residents in the Quinte region report their wells are far below normal levels.  The low water levels also mean the boating season may be cut short. The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority says water levels on the lower half of the Rideau Canal are already below Parks Canada’s minimum standard of a five foot draught.

BIKE THIEF CAUGHT IN THE ACT
Kingston Police have charged a 46-year-old man after he was caught by staff at Queens cutting a lock and attempting to steal a bicycle outside the Queen’s University Centre last Saturday morning.  Queen’s University Campus Security and Emergency Services questioned the man before calling police.  Officers were able to identify him and discover he had bolt cutters in his backpack. The man was arrested for theft, and taken to police headquarters for further questioning.

RONALD HUCK RE-ARRESTED
OPP have re-arrested Ronald Huck for the fourth time since April.  The 73 year old former business leader and teacher in Leeds County and Ottawa was taken into custody again and charged with 7 new sexual offences. Those include 3 counts of indecent assault on a male, gross indecency and sexual assault.  Huck now faces 39 varying sexual offense charges involving 18 individuals over a 43 year time span.

SHEEP DOG TRIALS START TOMORROW
The Kingston Sheep Dog Trials are on this weekend at Grass Creek Park. Competitions have already began, with the public events running Friday through Sunday. Parking is limited so organizers are suggesting you take one of the three shuttles, running from the Toys R Us parking Lot, The Memorial Center and the Marriott Hotel at Kings Crossing.

POLICE LOOKING FOR CREDIT CARD THIEF
Kingston Police are trying to track down a male suspect who was captured on surveillance using debit cards stolen from vehicles in the city’s west end. In such cases it is also always advisable to contact IVA help because they can offer completely tailored debt  solutions that suit your circumstance.The male suspect was caught on a store video camera using a card that was stolen about two weeks ago.  Police say debit cards had been stolen from unlocked vehicles on both Springfield Drive and Savannah Court.The suspect is described as between 20 and 30 years old with a medium build, partial beard and brown hair.

FIRE ON SUTHERLAND DRIVE
There were no injuries in an early morning garage fire on Sutherland Drive in Kingston on Tuesday around 2:20 a.m. Kingston Fire and Rescue crews responded to the working fire and were able to quickly knock the fire down. The cause is believed to be electrical.

GANANOQUE IMPAIRED DRIVER CHARGED
A 23 year-old man from Gananoque is facing impaired driving charges after Kingston police found him behind the wheel at Centennial Drive last Friday morning, facing the intersection, approximately two car lengths from the stop line with the brake lights on and slumped over the wheel. The officer was able to open the door and put the car in park. He was transported to headquarters and found to be two times over the legal limit. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the car impounded for seven days.  He’s due in court at a later date.

TASTES OF GAN THIS WEEKEND
If you love food, then it’s time to tempt your taste buds.  The annual Tastes of Gan event is on Saturday! King Street will be closed to traffic between Charles and Stone so people can sample the many culinary delights from the vendors.  The event begins at 11 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. There will be a kids zone and buskers too. Money raised from this event goes to the  Gananoque Food Bank.

SMALL PLANE EMERGENCY LANDING
Two people on board a small plane made an unexpected landing in Lake Ontario yesterday morning. Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue was called to a location near Quinte Isle Campark off Salmon Point Road just after 10 A.m. the light weight plan landed with one wing submerged in the water. The pilot was treated with minor injuries and the passenger was unharmed.

KINGSTON IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGE
A 27-year-old Kingston woman has been charged with impaired driving after she struck a parked vehicle and left the scene only to park a short distance away in her own driveway.  The incident happened at about 4am last Saturday.  Officers caught up with the accused a short time later and upon investigation found her to be under the influence.  She was taken to headquarters where she blew twice over the legal limit.  She was charged with impaired driving and driving in excess of the legal limit of alcohol.

BURNING BAN STILL IN EFFECT
A number of people in Leeds and the Thousand Islands are ignoring the burning ban.  Fire Chief Gerry Bennett says over the last few days both Gananoque and LTI fire departments have been called out for a number of complaints of people burning wood and other materials. A complete burn ban means no campfires, no open air burning and no incinerators.
