Third Crossing – Team Hired

 

One of the world’s largest construction contractors will lead the construction of the $180 million Third Crossing bridge in Kingston.  Kiewit Construction will lead design build team that was introduced at a news conference at Kingston City Hall yesterday afternoon.  Some preliminary site preparation will take place starting in September and construction is expected to get underway next summer.  The 1.1 kilometre bridge is slated for completion by 2022.  The construction project is expected to create about 200 jobs.

1st CDN Division Commander – Iraq

 

The commander of the 1st Canadian Division at CFB Kingston has been named as the commander of a new NATO mission in Iraq.  Major General Dany Fortin will become commander then mission later this year.  The mission to train Iraqi forces will include up to 250 Canadians and up to three helicopters from Canada.  Fortin will be deployed to Iraq for a year.

 

Sex Assault – Daughter

 

A Kingston man has been charged with sexually assaulting his daughter and threatening to shoot her boyfriend.  Kingston Police say it happened at the man’s home on August 9th after he had consumed alcohol and drugs.  A 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday and charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation, incest and harassment by threatening conduct.

 

Stolen Property – Arrests

 

The OPP says it used a tracking dog in a foot pursuit to catch three suspects after finding a stolen e-bike at a residence on Main Street in Odessa.  Police say they also found a minivan that had been stolen in Kingston and stolen goods inside the van on Tuesday morning.

35 year old Andrew Plaku of Kingston, 29 year old Krista Corcoran of Odessa and 23 year old Kyrsten Gruenberg of South Frontenac are facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime.

 

Bicycle Recovered

 

Kingston Police have recovered a bicycle that was stolen two years ago after an officer spotted a man with a mountain bike entering a pawn shop Tuesday night.  The officer discovered the bicycle was stolen after arresting the man for possession of crystal meth and breach of probation.  He’s also been charged with possession of stolen property.  It turns out the bike had been reported stolen in June of 2016.

 

Night Market

 

A popular summer event returns to the Memorial Centre tonight.

The Loving Spoonful and Memorial Centre Farmers’ Market are presenting their Night market on the grounds of the Memorial Centre from 6 to 10 p.m.  It will feature more than 40 food vendors, a beer tent and wine garden.

 

Blues Festival

 

The 22nd annual Limestone City Blues Festival gets underway today with afternoon concerts in Confederation  Park and tonight with the opening show in Confederation Park features three time Maples Blues Award winner Harpdog Brown from Vancouver.

The festival continues throughout the weekend in downtown Kingston.  The Friday night show will take place at Princess and Barrie Streets and the Saturday night concert is slated for Springer Market Square.
