Uber Bylaw

It’s not called the getting rid of Uber bylaw…but…the Kingston Area Taxi Commission has passed a bylaw that could mean the end of services like Uber in Kingston.

It requires transportation networking companies like Uber or Lyft to pay a $40,000 startup fee, and yearly administration fee of $35,000.

That’s just the beginning of the requirements.

They include an annual license costing between six and nine hundred dollars for each car…cars have to be less than seven years old and drivers have to provide a police check.

The Taxi Commission will start enforcing the bylaw on September 15th.

A news release says police believe the man is operating the scam in this area with two women.

Kingston Police reported several people lost a thousand dollars and one person was ripped off for $4,500 by these scammers.

Water Tower

The scaffolding that’s been growing around Kingston’s water tower near Bath and Princess will be used to give it a new paint job.  The 2.3 million dollar contract involves shrouding the entire water tower so it can be sandblasted.  The old silver paint contains lead and has to be removed.  It will then be painted white with blue lettering.  An engineering safety assessment of the 60 year old tower last year showed it was in good condition and structurally sound.
