School Buses

All school transportation was cancelled for the day early this morning.

Tri-Board Student Transportation and Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario both announced before 6am that school buses were cancelled due to the weather.

Weather – Roads

Public Works crews were out in Kingston ploughing, salting and sanding throughout the weekend.  This morning…main roads in Kingston were bare and wet.  Roads that weren’t been plowed were snow covered and icy with a crust of ice on top of the snow.

Sidewalks were also covered in snow with a layer of ice on top.

Public works says crews are tackling side streets and sidewalks today as they work to clear away the mess.

The MTO reports the 401 is generally bare and wet through the Kingston area this morning.

Collins Bay – Lockdown

The medium security unit at Collins Bay Institution was under a lock down on the weekend.  It was put in place on Friday afternoon to allow staff to conduct an exceptional search.

The Correctional Service says the search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution.

Visits were cancelled on the weekend and officials say normal operations will resume when it’s considered safe to do so.

Rideau Lakes – Death

The OPP underwater search and recovery unit has located the body of a man in Grady Lake…northeast of Westport.  51 year old Manfred Decalvares was reported missing last Thursday afternoon.

His body was recovered from the lake on Friday.  No foul play is suspected in his death.

Housing Price Survey

The latest housing price survey from Royal LePage says the price of a home in Kingston increased by 4.5 % in the past year.  The average price of a home was $338,861 at the end of March – the 1st quarter of 2018.

Royal LePage says nationally the price of a home in Canada increased by 6.2% and the average is now at more than $605,000.
