Reports Cards

Students in Limestone District School Board elementary schools will be getting their report cards at the end of this month.

The school board says the end of year report cards will be available by June 25th.

It says student grades will be included but there may not be comments from the teachers because of their work-to-rule campaign.

Napanee Woman – Psychiatric Assessment

A 23 year old Napanee woman charged with first degree murder in the death of her newborn baby has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment.

Kirsten Pemberton was remanded in custody yesterday during her bail hearing in Belleville.

She’s being held at the Quinte Detention Centre.

Pemberton will undergo a 30 day psychiatric assessment at Providence Care in Kingston.

Her bail hearing is scheduled to resume on July 16th.

Research Funding

Research projects at Queen’s University and the Royal Military College are getting 16.7 million dollars from the Ontario government.

The money is for 25 researchers at Queen’s and two researchers at RMC.

Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala announced the funding yesterday.

St. Lawrence – Convocation Ceremonies

Convocation ceremonies continue today for students at St. Lawrence College.

Last night, Kingston General Hospital CEO Leslee Thompson received an Honorary Diploma during ceremonies at the Rogers K-Rock Centre.

This morning…Justice Allan Letourneau will receive an honorary diploma and during this afternoon’s graduation ceremonies…Mike Sewell of the Limestone District School Board will receive an honorary diploma.

Prospects Festival

Kingston is playing host to three major sports events over the next three weekends.

The Kingston Hockey Sports Family Festival kicks off this weekend with girl’s hockey.

Next weekend it’s Ringette.  A boy’s hockey tournament takes place on the final weekend of June.

All of the games and skills clinics take place at the Invista Centre.

Organizers say 200 teams are visiting Kingston and nearly 3,000 young people will be involved in the tournaments over the next three weekends.

Cannonball Rush – Beerfest

Kingston’s top tourist attraction is going to be a busy place this weekend.

Fort Henry is hosting its third annual Cannonball Rush tomorrow.  Participants run a 5km course that includes challenging obstacles.

The Fort is also hosting an event called Beerfest on Saturday.  It features craft beers, food trucks and live entertainment.

BioBlitz

It’s BioBlitz time.

The Kingston Field Naturalists hold their 17th annual BioBlitz starting at three this afternoon and running until three tomorrow afternoon.

People will count plant, animal and other species as a measure of the biodiversity of a local area.  The gathering point is Wintergreen Studios on Canoe Lake Road.

It’s free – open to the public and there will be guided walks to learn about the natural history of the area.

Ukrainian Festival

A Kingston tradition returns to entertain people this weekend.

The Ukrainian Folklore Festival is taking place at Regiopolis – Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School.

It runs from 6-10 p.m. today…noon to 10 p.m. tomorrow and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Passports are $5.
