Puck N’ Ball – Severe Injury
The annual Puck ‘N Ball hockey and lob ball tournament in Amherstview wasn’t just all fun and games this weekend as a 4 yr old was seriously injured at the event!
4 year old Lauren Cooley of Amherstview underwent surgery yesterday after suffering a fractured skull when she was struck by a ball during the annual popular lob ball tournament.
Witnesses day A player hit a home run and the ball struck Lauren in the head while she was in someone’s arms with the impact causing a skull fracture.
Lauren underwent surgery at CHEO in Ottawa on Tuesday afternoon.

LaSalle Causeway Closing
Even if you travel by foot, your commute across the causeway could be much longer later this month or next!
Yes, the LasSalle Causeway is being repaired and will only be closed for two days, but at this time we unfortunately don’t know when this will take place in either August or September.
Pedestrians, motorists and cyclists will have to find alternative routes and only boats less than four metres in height will be able to pass under the causeway during the two days.
Pedestrians, however, will be able to take advantage of a free taxi shuttle service provided by Public Works and Government Services Canada, Taxis will pick walkers up at either end of the causeway and drive them via Hwy. 401 to the other side.
The contract for the repairs will be awarded next week and the dates of the closure will be announced as soon as the schedule is confirmed with the contractor.


Male Dangerously Using Hammer also found with Stolen Property
A 28-year-old Kingston man has landed himself in jail after an altercation where he attempted to fight a group of men with a hammer and was discovered to also be in possession of recent stolen property.
On Monday night Kingston Police were called to the area of Princess Street and Sydenham Street where three men were restraining another man, on the ground. The accused e was holding a metal hammer and refused  to release it.
After the man was placed under arrest police learned he was in possession of stolen identification and credit cards, a cheque book registered to a  financial business were found, with multiple cheques written out to the accused for $1,000 each as well as other stolen objects
The accused is being charged with Weapons Dangerous, two counts of Possession of Stolen Property and two counts of Breach of Probation.

1812 Shipwrecks – National Historic Cite of Canada
Kingston is now the home to National Historic Sites both above AND below the water!
The government of Canada has recognized the national historic significance of the War of 1812 Shipwrecks below the waves of Lake Ontario.
The three known 1812 wrecks in the Kingston area  are — HMS Prince Regent, HMS Princess Charlotte and HMS St. Lawrence, were eventually sank, and the wrecks and the collection of objects from them help give a picture of importance of the British fleet based in Kingston and Royal Navy’s shipbuilding program during the War of 1812.There currently is no set date or time scheduled for the plaque ceremony.

Male Caught Breaking into Retirement Residence Construction Site
Thanks to the sharp eyes of a witness Kingston Police were able to locate, arrest and charge a 25-year-old local male for attempting to steal construction supplies.
Late last night police were called to the Waterford Retirement Residence  where there is a construction area for an expansion.
Officers came across a male dressed in black running on Cataraqui Woods Drive while His truck was found to be backed into the construction site at the end of the road.
In the bed of the truck was steel cables, copper wire and  A tool bag with numerous drills and circular saws
The suspect was arrested and charged with Break and Enter, Theft under $5,000 and Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000.

Suspects Sought in Graffiti to Cataraqui Mall
Detectives from the Kingston Police General Crime Unit are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying multiple suspects in a graffiti case that occurred at the Cataraqui Mall upper parking lot.
At approximately 11:00 p.m. last Tuesday five suspects attended the rooftop parking lot of the Cataraqui Mall,  where they proceeded to spray paint multiple words and symbols on the walls, doors and sand bin.

 TV-OBIT – Chrism Hyndman
Canada’s design community is reeling over the sudden death of T-V personality Chris Hyndman.
Jeanne Beker says she is “beyond devastated” by the news, and designer Sarah Richardson remembers Hyndman as “charming, charismatic and full of life.”
The C-B-C has reported the 49-year-old was found without vital signs late Monday night in a Toronto alleyway near his apartment, but police have not confirmed that, citing privacy concerns and the fact there is no criminal investigation.
Known for his on-screen partnership with decorator and husband Steven Sabados, Hyndman co-hosted the daily lifestyle series “Steven and Chris,” and H-G-T-V shows “Designer Guys” and “Design Rivals.”
C-B-C has taken the show off the air for now and will decide on how to proceed in coming days.

Toronto Club Shooting

Toronto Mayor John Tory is calling for a review into a deadly shooting at a nightclub.
Two people were killed and three others were injured early yesterday as an official after-party linked to local rapper Drake wrapped up.
Tory says police will conduct their own investigation but city officials will also look into the shooting to find out what went wrong and what might be done in the future to prevent such violence.
Authorities say there was a heavy police presence around the club, where another shooting took place at the same O-V-O Fest after-party last year.
Investigators have not released the names of the man and woman who were killed, saying they are still working on notifying family members. (The Canadian Press)

Federal Election Debate
The country’s main political leaders will stay off the campaign trail today and focus on getting ready for tomorrow night’s first leaders’ debate in Toronto.
The four leaders, including Green Party leader Elizabeth May, will be hunkered down with their top staff,.
But Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe — who was not invited to this debate organized by Maclean’s magazine — will campaign instead in eastern Quebec.

US-GOP-Debate
Donald Trump will be at the center of tomorrow night’s American presidential debate.
He’s among 10 Republican candidates chosen by the Fox News Channel to headline the faceoff.
Fox says the 10 choices were based on recent polls.
Seven other big candidates will have to settle for a pre-debate on the same Cleveland stage, but four hours earlier and out of prime time.
