College Strike

St. Lawrence College President Glen Vollebregt says he remains hopeful a settlement will be reached soon in the strike by college faculty.

The strike is starting its fourth week today.  Negotiations resumed last week – but there is no word and whether there has been progress at the bargaining table.

On Friday, faculty at St. Lawrence College in Kingston were joined by about 150 supporters from other labour union during a noon hour rally.

Pedestrian Fatal – Update

There’s no word yet on whether charges will be laid after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a Kingston Transit bus.

The bus collided with the pedestrian in the intersection of Leroy Grant Drive and John Counter Boulevard around 7:15 Friday morning.

A man in his 30’s died later in hospital from his injuries.

Anyone with information that may help in the investigation is being asked to contact Kingston Police or Crime Stoppers.

Missing Youth

A 16 year old from Napanee who had been missing has been located.

The OPP had asked for help from the public in locating the youth on Friday…and he was located on Saturday according to a post on Twitter by the OPP.

Shooting

There’s been another mass shooting in the US.

People gathered for a candlelight vigil in Sutherland Springs, Texas last night and killed 26 people and wounded 20 others inside a small church Sunday morning.  The gunman was later found dead in a truck after being chased off by a civilian.

Pot Stores

Representatives of the LCBO will be meeting with officials in Kingston in the coming weeks to work on deciding where to locate Kingston’s government run marijuana stores.  The government announced on Friday that Kingston is one of 14 cities that will have an Ontario Cannabis Retail Corporation store.

It will identify 26 more locations in Ontario in the near future.

La Salle Causeway

More maintenance work on the La Salle Causeway will lead to lane restrictions later this week.

Public Works and Government Services Canada says the lane restrictions will be in place Wednesday to Friday of this week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The agency says the schedule may change due to bad weather.
