Cyclist – Serious Injuries

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after his bicycle and a car collided on Division Street.  It happened shortly after four yesterday afternoon.

Frontenac Paramedic Services treated the man in his 30’s at the scene and he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The Chesterfield motorcycle accident lawyers said that immediate action should be taken to assist the victim in treatment. Kingston Police closed the stretch of Division Street where the accident happened for over six hours last night while they investigated the crash.

Amherstview Man – Guilty Plea

A man from Amherstview will be sentenced on September 11th after pleading guilty to a disturbance on an Air Canada flight from Jamaica to Toronto in May.

Brandon Courneyea entered the guilty plea for interference with a flight attended in Orlando, Florida.

Courneyea had taken cocaine before a flight from Jamaica to Toronto in May and then attacked passengers and flight attendants with hot pots of coffee.  He was subdued and zip tied to a seat and the plane was diverted to Orlando.

South Frontenac Man – Search

A 35 year old man from South Frontenac is the subject of a search after he took off from police in Napanee.

The OPP says it considers John Macdonald dangerous and they’re asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Police say they stopped to help two motorists on Beechwood Road in Napanee on Tuesday and recognized one of the men as John Macdonald who is currently wanted for assault in Napanee.  He’s also wanted by Frontenac OPP for sexually assaulting a person under 16 and failing to comply with his probation.

The two men took off in separate vehicles.  Macdonald got away.  37 year old Sean Harvey of Bath was arrested after trying to hit a police cruiser head on and faces numerous charges including theft of the vehicle.

Children Protected by Neighbours

Kingston Police say neighbours were able to get the children out of a mid-town Kingston home to protect them after a man assaulted his partner during a domestic dispute.

Police say the woman was kicked…fell and received cuts to her head.  They say the man then prevented her from calling 911.  Neighbours heard the dispute and were able to take the children to their residence and call police.

The 39 year old Kingston man was arrested nearby and has been charged with assault and mischief.

Flooding Update

The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority says lakes north of Kingston and Gananoque are overflowing after the heavy rainfall on Monday.

It has added more lakes to its Flood Warning and says many roads have been closed due to flooding.  It’s advising people to check with their municipality to find out if roads are closed and is asking the public to use caution around fast flowing watercourses and dams.

Glenora Ferry

The Ministry of Transportation has announced the Glenora Ferry has resumed full service.

It announced yesterday the service is back up and running with two ferries on full service and the ferries will run on a 15 minute schedule.

The ferry hadn’t been taking large vehicles since May due to the high water level at Adolphus Reach.

Rideau Canal

Parks Canada is hoping to re-open the Rideau Canal today after it was virtually closed down by the record breaking rainfall on Monday.

Several lock stations north of Kingston re-opened yesterday and officials are optimistic the canal will be fully open within the next 24 hours.
