Vandalism – Soccer Fields

Vandalism means a scramble to find other facilities for more than 500 young soccer players in Kingston.

Kingston Police have charged a youth with mischief after a pickup truck did donuts on the fields at John Machin Soccer Park late Saturday night.  Police followed the mud and grass to a home where they found a youth who was a passenger in the truck – then found the 17 year old driver who had taken his father’s truck with five friends during a graduation celebration.

Four of the fields at the Soccer Park have been damaged and can’t be used until they are repaired.

Parks Canada – Kingston Mills – Road Repairs

Parks Canada says repairs to Kingston Mills Road are taking longer than expected because of the rainfall…high water levels and fast flowing water at the Kingston Mills dam.

It says the washed out portion of the road has been filled with rock and the contractor will now be working to rebuild the actual road.

It hopes to have repairs to Kingston Mills Road completed by mid-July.

Gananoque Parking – HonkMobile

Gananoque has announced a partnership with a company called HonkMobile that allows people to use a smartphone app to pay for their parking.

It allows you to pay for and top up parking directly from the app.

Kingston is considering launching a year-long pilot project with the same company.  A report from city staff is recommending city council approve a 12-month pilot project at downtown off-street parking lots.

BC Lions – Kingston

The Canadian Football League’s B.C. Lions say their four day stay in Kingston is a chance to do some team building.

The Lions played in Toronto on Friday night and decided to stay in Kingston before Thursday night’s game in Montreal.

They had the chance to watch Canada Day fireworks in Kingston and some of the players were excited about the chance to visit Kingston Penitentiary and other sites.

The team practiced yesterday and will practice today at Queen’s before heading off to Montreal tomorrow.
