Bridge

People opposed to and in favour of the Third Crossing have had their chance to speak to Kingston City council. 14 delegations appeared at a special meeting on the bridge over the Cataraqui River last night.

Councillors then questioned the consultants on the bridge design before adjourning the meeting shortly after 10:30 last night.  The special meeting will resume at 6:00 p.m. today.

Ontario Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca announced the province is pledging up to $60 million to fund the Third Crossing.

Del Duca made the announcement at Kingston city hall yesterday morning and said he wasn’t trying to influence the decision by city councillors…but he says there is a very strong case for the bridge.

The province and city will now work on getting the federal government to fund the project.
