Missing Man

A 28 year old Kingston man who was reported missing has been located.

Kingston Police had asked for help finding Douglas Wilson yesterday.  At 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, police posted a message on Twitter saying Wilson had been located overnight in Kingston.

Assault – Puppy Kicked

A 19 year old Kingston man is facing charges after police say he attacked his girlfriend when she accused him of abusing a puppy.  Police say the incident happened Sunday morning after the woman accused the 19 year old of kicking the dog while he was visiting her apartment.

Police say the man grabbed her by the throat and threw her down when she tried to leave with the puppy — and say she only managed to get free when a neighbour came to the door.

The man has been charged with forcible confinement and assault.

Drunk W/Crowbar

Drunk and angry…waving a crowbar and causing a disturbance.

A 25 year old man from Portland has been charged with causing a disturbance, obstructing police, possession of a weapon and three counts of breach probation.

Police had been called about a disturbance in a store at Princess and Division Street on Saturday.  The man was arrested in the parking lot of a restaurant on Princess Street just east of Bath Road where customers had forced him into the parking lot.

Health Care Contract

Members of the Ontario Nurses Association who work for the Southeast Community Care Access Centre have approved a new three year contract.

The 217 registered nurses, nurse practitioners, registered practical nurses and other employees are based in Kingston, Napanee, Picton, Belleville, Northbrook, Brockville and Smiths Falls.

The new contract includes a 1.4% wage increase in the first year…1.4 in the second year and two per cent in the third year.  It’s retroactive to March of last year, when the last contract expired.

CUPE – Hearing Society Strike

Members of the Canadian Union of Public employees at the Canadian Hearing Society are on the picket line in Kingston and across Ontario.

They’ve been without a contract for the past four years and haven’t received a wage increase over that period.

SLPC Funding

The St. Lawrence Parks Commission is getting funding of over $200,000 to make improvements to Fort Henry’s Lumina Borealis and Pumpkinferno at Upper Canada Village.  The money comes from Celebrate Ontario.

The funding will be used to create new Canada 150 themed exhibits.

Funding of $105,500 will be used to create a new Lumina Zone at Lumina Borealis and $97,750 will go towards enhancements for Pumpkinferno.

The Parks Commission says the two event draw over 95,000 visitors during the tourism off-season, have created about 125 jobs and generate upwards of $9.5 million in economic impacts.

Walk ‘n’ Roll

Cyclists say they’d ride more often in Kingston if there were more bike lanes or trails…and only 38% of cyclists say they feel safe riding in Kingston.

The city has released results of its Walk ‘n’ Roll survey aimed at developing an active transportation master plan…a plan to get more people out of vehicles. 300 people responded to the survey.

The survey found the biggest barriers to people walking and riding bikes are weather, busy roads, road maintenance and the lack of proper crosswalks.
