President Elect Trump

A stunning victory for Donald Trump.  Trump has been elected as the 45th President of the United States.

Trump delivered his victory speech early this morning in New York City.

Trump told his supporters Hilary Clinton called him to congratulate him and he congratulated her on a hard fought campaign.

He was conciliatory in his comments saying Hilary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country.

Trudeau – Trump

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has offered his congratulations to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump.  Trudeau says Canada looks forward to working “very closely” with Trump, his administration and with the U.S. Congress on issues including trade, investment, international peace and security.

He says Canada has “no closer friend, partner, and ally” than the U.S and the relationship serves as a model for the world.

President – St. Lawrence College

No controversy when it comes to this president.

The Board of Governors of St. Lawrence College has voted unanimously to extend the contract of President and CEO Glenn Vollebregt for five years.  He was appointed President and CEO in 2013.

Hannah – Deceased

A sad note on the disappearance of a man from his home in the village of Tichborne on November 1st.

Police had asked for help from the public in locating 52 year old Benjamin Hannah.

Hannah’s body was found by members of the OPP Emergency Response Team in a wooded area in Central Frontenac on Monday afternoon.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Domestic Assault

A 27 year old Kingston man is facing charges after a woman was assaulted – Kingston Police say his domestic partner was hit with a baseball bat.

Police were called to an apartment on Portsmouth Avenue around 10am on Monday.  The man had left but was arrested on Van Order Drive.  He’s been charged with assault, assault with a weapon and breach of probation.

HDH – Pain Clinic – Funding

Hotel Dieu Hospital is receiving $1,655,219 from the Ontario Government to expand its chronic pain clinic.  The funding was announced yesterday by Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala.  It’s part of an initiative across the province to prevent addiction to opiate based pain medication.

Kingston – Housing Starts

Canada Mortgage and Housing is reporting an increase in housing starts in Kingston in October.  607 units were under construction last month.  That’s up from just 223 units in September.

The agency says the increase is due to construction being started on more single-detached homes and townhomes.
