Coronavirus – CFB Trenton

A passenger on board the plane bringing 228 Canadians to CFB Trenton has tested positive for COVID-19.

The person was on the flight along with John and Assunta Gerretsen of Kingston.

Public Health officials say there is no threat to the public because the person who has tested positive and the other passengers on the plane will be under quarantine at CFB Trenton.

 

WHO – Hanks – NBA

The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak a pandemic and is asking countries to do everything possible to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The NBA has put its season on hold after a player tested positive for the coronavirus and celebrity Tom Hanks and his wife have confirmed cases of the coronavirus.  Hanks is filming a movie in Australia.

 

Premiers Meet – Coronavirus

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he and his counterparts in other provinces are set to meet with the prime minister today to discuss the corona virus and other issues.

The meeting comes a day after Ford announced a 100-million-dollar contingency fund to deal with the outbreak.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also rolled out a billion-dollar package to deal with the impact of the coronavirus.

 

U-S Travel Ban – Coronavirus

U-S President Donald Trump says he is taking drastic but necessary steps to protect Americans from the coronavirus.  Trump announced a ban on travel last night….

Trump blamed the European Union for America’s outbreak issues because it hasn’t banned travel.

 

Film Festival – Coronavirus

The 2020 Kingston Canadian Film Festival opened last night despite concerns about the coronavirus.

Festival organizers say they are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation.

They say there are a number of sellouts but there are still tickets available to many of the films.

The festival runs through Sunday.

 

KFL&A – St. Patrick’s Day

KFL&A Public Health has issued an advisory about St. Patrick’s Day.

It has released an infographic that says:

Avoid getting too drunk or high.

Avoid large crowds.

Avoid close contact.

The message is being promoted by Queen’s University and says:

“You have a role to play to keep our ER clear and help to prevent the spread of COVID-19”.

 

Queen’s – Coronavirus Concerns

The head of Queen’s University’s COVID-19 response team is asking students to tell friends from out of town not to come to Kingston for St. Patrick’s Day parties.

Dr. David Walker says community spread of the coronavirus is now starting to take place.

The big concern for Queen’s is students who drink too much and may have been exposed to the virus going to the emergency room because of the chance they could spread the virus to paramedics and hospital staff.

It says that would results in the paramedics and hospital staff being place under quarantine or self-isolation during a time when their services are urgently needed.

 

L&A Stories

The Lennox and Addington County Museum and Archives in Napanee is asking people to share some long-lost memories about life in Lennox & Addington.

People are being encouraged to submit stories to the museum that will be shared on the county’s website and on social media.

An L&A Stories kick-off event will take place at the museum in Napanee on Saturday, April 4th.
