Beaman Search

The search is continuing in Kingston for Canadian Forces private Michal Beaman.

The 22-year-old was last seen at The Spot nightclub on Friday night.

Investigators have confirmed Beaman visited the new warming centre at Wellington and Barrack Streets after leaving the nightclub.

The OPP underwater dive team arrived in Kingston early yesterday afternoon and began searching the waters near the Royal Military College.

Beaman was training at the School of Communications and Electronics at CFB Kingston.

 

Coronavirus

KFL&A Public Health says there are no confirmed cases of the Wuhan Coronavirus in Kingston and there is nobody under investigation or suspected of having the virus in Kingston.

Health authorities in Ontario say they’ve managed to contact most of the people who may have had close contact with the Toronto couple who are the country’s first two coronavirus patients.

Canada’s third likely case of coronavirus was identified yesterday in British Columbia.

 

Public Lecture – Coronavirus

Experts from the Queen’s University Faculty of Health Sciences will be speaking about the Wuhan Coronavirus at a public lecture tomorrow.

Panelists include Dr. Gerald Evans…chair of infectious diseases at Queen’s, KFL&A Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore and Dr. David Walker who was chair of the Ontario Expert Panel on SARS and Infectious disease control.

They’ll be discussing whether lessons learned from SARS are helping fight this new outbreak.

The discussion will take place in Robert Sutherland Hall from 5-6pm tomorrow.

 

Teachers Situation

Elementary school teachers in the Limestone District and Upper Canada District School Boards are on strike today along with colleagues at two other school boards.

The strikes are taking place as the union and government negotiators meet for negotiations today…the first time in over a month.

If no deal is reached by Friday…the elementary teacher union plans to ramp up their job action to include province-wide walkouts starting on Thursday of next week.

 

Owl Rescued

A sad ending to the rescue of an owl by OPP officers in Madoc who had taken it to the Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre in Napanee.

Police found the owl on Lahey Road early yesterday after it had been hit by a passing vehicle.  An officer used an OPP issued raincoat to cover and capture the owl for assessment and possible rehabilitation. Sandy Pines says the owl had extensive injuries and died.

 

Family Literacy Day

McDonald’s Canada is hosting an event in Kingston today to help inspire children to love reading.  Monday was Family Literacy Day in Canada.

McDonalds is holding a literacy themed Family night event in ten cities across Canada today and the Division Street McDonald’s is one of the ten locations.

Canadian author, Kim Bellefontaine will be doing several readings from her book ABC of Canada between 4 and 7pm.
