How’s it going, you ask? Getting ready for 65k?

Actually, not as bad as I thought. I usually start strong, and then peter out after the first few days.

And what’s it been for me has been less “training” per se, but rather starting to build that endurance. And that only comes from getting back on eating healthier, and cardio work outs.

Let’s start by revisiting the Waterloo Region Crossing mission. This incredible group of adventure racers are setting the pace on raising awareness on social issues in Kitchener, Waterloo & Cambridge. And while I could break down the trek, and all it stands for, I’ll let lead organizer, Tessa Jennison, take over. She appeared recently on our sister station 570 News alongside Mike Farwell, and dropped by to chat with Natasha McKenty on In-Studio:

I’ve finally found my way back to strictly smoothie breakfasts. Good dinners. And a smattering of workouts on our treadmill – we’ve affectionately renamed “Boss Billy” – for the days I can’t make it into town.

But what’s more important than training, or getting ready, or psyching myself out for the 65k is remembering why we’re doing it all. And as Tessa super eloquently articulated in her interviews, while we’re not trying to emulate the struggles of a person who may be homeless, being cognisant that we have warm jackets, and proper footwear, and a warm place to go during, and after this hike, is what’s essential.

Till next week.
