School Buses

It is not a Tri-Board Tuesday!

Tri-Board Transportation announced shortly before 6:00 a.m. most areas were ready for buses.

There were some delays and a large number of cancellations in the Belleville, Trenton and Stirling area.

Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario cancelled all school transportation today.

Roads – Kingston Transit

It doesn’t look like it is going to be a great drive for you this morning.

Roads in the area are snow covered and slippery.

Kingston got 10-15 cm of snow.

Kingston Police investigated half a dozen crashes last night caused by slippery conditions.

Two Kingston Transit buses got stuck on Hillside Avenue and one went off the road in Collins Bay.

Kingston Transit also stopped servicing stops on Hudson Drive and Prince Charles Drive because of the weather conditions.

Don Cherry

Don Cherry is making no apologies for his controversial rant about “you people” not wearing poppies.  Cherry says he could have kept his job as co-host of ”Coach’s Corner” had he agreed to become — as he puts it — ”a tame robot who nobody would recognize.”

Sportsnet fired him yesterday saying following discussions with Cherry, it was decided it was the ”right time for him to immediately step down.”

Cherry contacted the Canadian Press last night and says He knows what he said and is sticking to it.  He says the support he’s been getting is unbelievable.

Queen’s – Installation

Patrick Deane will be installed as the new principal and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University today.

Convocation ceremonies are taking place at Queens and the installation of Deane is one of the highlights.

Honorary degrees will also be conferred on former principal Daniel Woolf, and John Borrows, one of the foremost authorities on Indigenous law and constitutional law in Canada.

Following the ceremonies today in Grant Hall there will be a reception to celebrate Deane’s installation as principal at Ban Righ Hall.

KOA Campgrounds

The 1000 Islands/Kingston KOA Holiday Campground has earned the 2020 KOA President’s Award and KOA Founder’s Award.  The awards were presented yesterday at KOA’s Annual International Convention in Savannah, GA.

The Awards are based on the result of surveys with campers who use KOA facilities.

Smile Cookies

The Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie Campaign in Kingston has raised a record $132,074 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Kingston General Hospital. The special cookies were only on sale for seven days.

Tim Hortons has donated more than $830,000 to the Kingston Health Sciences Centre over a period of nearly two decades.
