Bitcoin Scam

Kingston Police say two victims in Kingston have lost a total of $25,000 to scammers who told them their personal bank accounts, social insurance number or other information was involved in a major fraud case or money laundering investigation.  The victims were told to send funds converted to Bitcoin to fix the issue.

Kingston Police say they will never contact you requesting payment over the phone.

In addition, no police service would ever request any form of payment using Bitcoin.

Kingston Police say any business or corporation requesting payment by Bitcoin is almost certainly a fraudulent request.
