Severe Weather

The Bloomfield area in Prince Edward County saw some of the heaviest rain and wind during thunderstorms that whipped through the region Saturday night.

Heritage Committee – Power Struggle

There’s a power struggle at city hall and Kingston’s heritage buildings are at the centre of the battle.  City staff want to limit the powers of the heritage committee to making recommendations on the demolition of buildings.  It has – up until recently – been involved in also making recommendations on exterior changes to heritage buildings.

The committee chair, City Councillor Peter Stroud, says upper levels of city management are trying to make it more user friendly for developers and other property owners.

City council has asked staff to report back on what other cities are doing before it makes a decision on limiting the power of the heritage committee.
