Body – ID

Kingston Police are thanking the public for help in identifying a woman whose body was found on a sailboat near Belle Park on Sunday.

They were able to confirm the identity of the woman yesterday.

A man’s body was also found on the sailboat.

The coroner is continuing an investigation into the sudden deaths but police say they are not considered criminally suspicious.

 

Pickets

Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada in Kingston staged information pickets at two locations this morning.

They were picketing in the area of CFB Kingston and Collins Bay Institution.

The information pickets were held as a protest over a lack of progress in bargaining and continued problems with the Phoenix pay system.

 

Juniper Cafe

The Juniper Cafe at the Tett Centre in Kingston has been sold.

The former owners posted a message on Facebook saying they will be opening a new restaurant in downtown Kingston.

The new owner of the Juniper is Raissa Sarkisan.  The Facebook post says the cafe will undergo some renovations and reopen in time for patio season.

The former owners say their decision to sell was due to a tumultuous relationship with the Tett Centre which is owned by the City of Kingston.  Over 5,000 people signed a petition to keep it open when they first went public with their complaints in January.

 

JDUC Revitalization

A multi-million dollar revitalization project for the John Deutsch University Centre at Queen’s is another step closer to reality.

The Queens Board of Trustees has conditionally agreed to support the redevelopment project.

The board says if conditions are met the centre for student life on campus will undergo a complete re-do at an estimated cost of over $60 million.

Students have approved a special levy for the next 25 years to raise $50.5 million dollars and the University says it will provide $11.8 million in funding.

 

Vinyl Madness

Zap Records is presenting the Kingston Record Show tomorrow from 11 am to 3pm at Princess Street United Church.

More than two dozen vinyl vendors will be at the show. Zap says many of the vendors are private and their collections are only available to record stores or at record shows like the one tomorrow.

Recycling Centre Open House

 

The Kingston Area Recycling Centre is holding an open house Sunday.

The centre on Lappan’s Lane will be open from 10am to 2pm.

The city says you’ll get a behind the scenes look at how recyclables are sorted and prepared for market.

 

YMCA – Healthy Kids Day

The YMCA on Wright Crescent will be hosting Healthy Kids Day on Sunday.

It is opening its door for FREE public swimming from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. along with games, sports, crafts and activities from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Healthy Kids Day is a national promotion for the Y to attract new members.
