Sri Lanka Attack

Nearly 300 people were killed and hundreds more wounded in eight bomb attacks at churches and luxury hotels near Sri Lanka’s capital on Easter Sunday.

The Sri Lankan Defense Minister described the bombings as a terrorist attack by religious extremists and said seven suspects have been arrested, though no group has claimed responsibility at this point in time.

It’s the deadliest attack the country has seen since its civil war ended a decade ago.

Fentanyl

KFLA Public Health is warning residents of the presence of fentanyl and carfentanil in the Kingston-area. Local data has shown the potentially lethal substances in illicit drugs like cocaine, MDMA, crystal meth and heroin. They urge everyone to be aware of the signs of an opioid overdose, pick up a free noloxone kit and to never use drugs alone.

Flooding

Utilities Kingston wants residents to be prepared in the event of a flood. They have posted information on their website on what to do if your basement floods, your power goes out or if sewers overflow following heavy rainfall. They emphasize that every basement is at risk of flooding, even if it has never happened before. They say to also avoid entering any flooded areas of your home until you’re told it’s safe to do so by a professional.

College Funding

The provincial government says future funding for post-secondary institutions in Ontario will depend on student performance. Merrillee Fullerton says this will include graduation rates, as well as graduate earnings, employment, and skills and competencies. The framework was released on Friday.
