Buses Cancelled – Exams Delayed

There were no school buses operating again today…the third day in a row.

Tri-Board Student Transportation and Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario have cancelled all school transportation due to the weather.

 

High school exams were supposed to start on Thursday.  Both the Limestone District School Board and Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board say they are moving the last day of school to Thursday and exams will start on Friday.

 

Babysitter Charged

Kingston Police have charged a former baby sitter with sexual assault.

Police say they began their investigation in November into allegations of assaults dating back to 2008.  A news release says the victim was under ten years old at the time.

A 23 year old Kingston man turned himself in at police headquarters on January 18th.  He is facing charges of invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference and sexual assault.

 

Council – Branding

Kingston will not be getting a new slogan – at least not yet.

City council has decided to hold off on a plan to hire a consulting company for $90,000 to rebrand Kingston.

A motion to defer until after the Council strategic planning process passed by a vote of 12-1.

 

Mediator – Capitol Condo

The city will not act as a mediator between the developer who wants to build the Capitol Condo and the citizens group that fought to block the development.  City council rejected the proposal last night.

IN8 Developments is planning to appeal the decision of the local planning tribunal late last year to the divisional court of Ontario.

 

Hurdle – CAO

Kingston’s Chief Administrative Officer is on an extended medical leave and the deputy CAO is taking over.  Community Services Commissioner Lanie Hurdle has been named Chief Administrative Officer for a period of six months while Gerard Hunt is on medical leave.

 

Brian’s Record Option

Good news about a legendary Kingston store.

Renovations to Brian’s Record Option are almost complete and owner Brian Lipsin says he’s hoping to be open for business in early February.

His store along with Tommy’s Place and the Pita Grill were flooded on August 5th during the Big Dig on Princess Street.

Lipsin says he lost about 30% of his 140,000 records because of damage.

 

Polar Plunge

Kingston Police are looking for people to take part ion their Polar Plunge.

It will be the 8th annual plunge to raise money for Special Olympics.
