COVID – Numbers

The resident of Providence Manor who tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday was admitted to Kingston General Hospital and two tests in the hospital have come up with negative results for the coronavirus.

KFL&A Public Health is investigating the conflicting test results.

There were no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington on Wednesday.

There have been 59 confirmed cases since testing began and 54 have recovered.

 

COVID – Long Term Care

KFL&A Public Health has used inspectors who would normally be checking on restaurants to inspect long term care and retirement homes.  The homes are being checked on a weekly basis and one retirement home has been ordered to make changes under the threat of a $5,000 fine.

The home hasn’t been named.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore, feels the regular inspections have helped avoid the spread of the virus in the regions long term care facilities.

 

COVID – Military

Premier Doug Ford is asking the federal government to deploy military personnel to five long-term care homes in Ontario hit by outbreaks of COVID-19.  Ford says he’ll also be formally requesting extra resources from the Public Health Agency to help provide operational and logistical assistance at the homes.  The province is also expanding testing to every resident and staff member in the homes, where there have been at least 448 deaths amid outbreaks at 127 facilities.

 

COVID – INVISTA Centre

The Invista Centre has been chosen as the site for a field hospital if it is needed during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Kingston Health Sciences Centre and KFL&A Public Health worked with the city to find the space needed if there is a surge in patients with the coronavirus.

The plan has to be approved by the province before work takes place to establish the alternate health facility at the Invista Centre.

 

Copper Theft

A 43-year-old man from Napanee is facing charges after police found a large quantity of copper wire during a vehicle stop.

Police stopped a vehicle at 4:30 yesterday morning on Oliver Side Road.

Break In – Arrest

Lennox and Addington County OPP have charged a man after an early morning break in at a business in Napanee.

Police say a man was arrested inside the business around 4:15 yesterday morning.

41-year-old Ryan Earl Melko has been charged with break and enter with intent to commit and indictable offence and failing to comply with probation orders.

 

COVID – Queen’s Sanitizer

A team at Queen’s University is creating hand sanitizer for Kingston’s hospitals.

The pandemic has led to shortage of the sanitizer.

A team of researchers from the Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering along with GreenCentre Canada have partnered with Kingston Health Sciences Centre and Tri-Art Manufacturing of Kingston to develop the hand sanitizer. 300 litres of product will be produced per week to help meet the needs of Kingston hospitals.

 

OPP Thank You

Lennox and Addington County OPP have issued a special message of thanks for front line workers in area hospitals.  The video message features officers and staff at the Napanee based detached and was posted on social media this week.

It thanks front line workers and those working behind the scenes at Lennox and Addington County General Hospital in Napanee, the Kingston Health Sciences Centre and Quinte Health in Belleville.

 

Good News – Gino’s

Noele Murano says his company decided to match the generosity and has also donated 20 pizzas.
