Pipeline Protests

The Mohawks blocking the CN and VIA Rail lines in Tyendinaga will be meeting with Wet’suewet’en hereditary chiefs.  The chiefs have travelled to Ontario from their territory in B-C to show their support for the Mohawks.

Canada’s premiers are hoping for a conference call with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today to discuss the situation.  Trudeau is refusing to use force to remove blockades in Canada…saying negotiations are the only way to find a lasting solution.

Canada’s minister in charge of Indigenous relations is trying to meet with the hereditary chiefs…but that is unlikely because of the visit to Ontario and the fact they won’t meet with government officials until the R-C-M-P and pipeline-builder Coastal GasLink pull out of their territory in B-C.

Planning Committee – Capitol Condo – BPE

A new proposal for the Capitol Condo project on Princess Street in downtown Kingston will be the subject of a public meeting at Kingston’s Planning Committee tonight.

The new 12 story proposal is four stories lower than the previous proposal that was rejected by the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal.

The Planning Committee will also get an update on the Unity Farm, Inn and Spa project from BPE Development.

The developer says the project on a 35-acre site on Battersea Road has evolved to satisfy requests from neighbours and the requirements of the city.

BPE says the most substantial change in plans is the proposed relocation of the hotel from the southeastern corner of the property to the northwestern edge.
