Serious Collision

Princess Street re-opened to traffic last night after a serious crash closed it for an extended period of time.

Princess was closed between Westbrook Road and Collins Bay Road while police investigated the crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Baxter Avenue.  The collision around 2:30 yesterday afternoon resulted in an elderly woman suffering life threatening injuries.

 

Opioid Deaths

Kingston Police are investigating two opioid deaths that took place on the same day in mid-January.

A search warrant was executed at a home on Macdonnell Street in Kingston yesterday – but no other information is being released.  The investigation involves the Major Crime Unit.

 

Violent Assaults

Kingston Police are asking for information on a pair of violent assaults that took place on January 25th.  Police say a man leaving a house party in the area of Division and Johnson Streets was attacked by four men on the front steps of the house.  Shortly after that a second man was confronted by a group of men in the same area and attacked.  Both victims were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The attorneys for traffic accident injuries are so shocked upon this incident and demands the government to provide proper compensation for the victims and punish the accused severely.

Anyone with information on these incidents is being asked to contact Kingston Police, Queen’s Campus Security, or Crime Stoppers. But if such an incident was done by a military official, then that person will be charged with criminal charges in the military and will be given strict punishments.

 

Impaired Driver

Kingston Police have charged a 48-year-old man with driving while impaired by a drug after stopping a vehicle with improper licence plates.

The vehicle was stopped on Day Street around 11:50 on Monday morning.  Police found a small quantity of crystal meth and marijuana.

The man has also been charged with possession of a controlled substance, and three counts of breach of probation.

 

Turtle Protection – City Council

Kingston city council is asking city staff to investigate the cost and funding options for more turtle protection.

Council approved a motion last night to have staff report on measures to protect turtles along Highway 2 extending into Creekside Valley Drive, in Westbrook.  The motion calls for staff to report back to the Environment Infrastructure and Transportation Policies Committee in time for the 2021 budget.

 

Budget Process

Kingston city council wants the budget process to be more open and transparent for the public.  Council passed a motion last night to have staff research and recommend an open budget process including public meetings various other ways of getting feedback from citizens.

Staff will look into what other municipalities are doing when it comes to a more open process when it comes to its annual budget.

 

Nanny Angels

There’s an information session tonight for people with professional child-care experience who want to become volunteers for the Nanny Angel Network in Kingston.

The charity matches volunteers with families who have young children where the mother has been diagnosed with cancer.  Volunteers provide free child care for the mom.

The info session is taking place at the Sanctuary at 221 Queen Street starting at seven tonight.
