Beaman – Body Found

 

A sad ending to the search for Private Michal Beaman.  Military Police at CFB Kingston are now investigating the 22-year old’s death after his body was found in the Cataraqui River near the LaSalle Causeway.

The body was recovered by the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit around 3:30 yesterday afternoon.

A news release from CFB Kingston thanked the community and police for their assistance in finding Beaman and offered condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Military Police are now trying to piece together how Beaman wound up in the water after leaving the Spot nightclub Friday night.

Beaman was a reservist from Saint John, New Brunswick and had been taking a course at the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics.

 

Water Levels – Shoreline Damage

 

The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority says its staff is predicting a higher risk of ice damage this winter along the shore of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River due to continuing high water levels.

The Conservation Authority has extended a water safety statement saying water levels have remained high due to one of the rainiest January’s on record.

It is urging residents to take care along shorelines due to reports of unsafe or unstable banks due to erosion.

 

Safety Message

 

An important safety message for ice fishers and snowmobilers from Picton Terminals this morning.

Picton Terminals’ tugboat Sheri Lynn S will be breaking ice today from the Picton Terminals dock to the Lehigh dock to the shipping channel at the Glenora Ferry.

The message from Picton Terminals says it wants people to be aware of ice conditions near the areas where they are working to break up the ice.

 

Search Warrant – Napanee

 

A man from Napanee is facing drug trafficking charges after the OPP executed a search warrant at a residence on Dundas Street.

Police seized methamphetamine, cocaine and psilocybin along with $2,500 cash and drug paraphernalia when they raided the home on Monday.

27-year-old James Richard Hum is facing three counts of trafficking along with charges for breach of probation and failing to comply with previous court orders.

 

Grease Pots

 

The City of Kingston has launched a program to get the grease out.

It is offering free containers for people to collect fat, oil and grease in a bid to keep the stuff out of the sewer system.  They’re called FOG cups.  They’re compostable and can be put in your green bin.

The FOG cups are available at the Utilities Kingston offices, the Kingston Area Recycling Centre on Lappans Lane and Kingston Fire and Rescue Headquarters at 500 O’Connor Drive.

 

Car on Ferry

 

It was the case of the forgotten car on the Wolfe Island Ferry.

A passenger on the ferry forgot their car yesterday morning and left the ferry on foot.

A message was posted on Twitter saying the car was left on the ferry at 8am yesterday.

About an hour later the person who left their car on the ferry came back and got the vehicle.

 

Providence Care – Art Hive

 

Providence Care Hospital is officially opening a new space today where patients and clients can paint, draw, play or listen to music, read and write or simply enjoy some quiet time.

The hospital says the goal of the new space is to foster creativity and create a safe space for social inclusion.  It will also be used to conduct research supporting the value of arts in healthcare.

Providence Care Hospital will hold the grand opening of the Art Hive at two o’clock this afternoon.
