Snow – Roads – Update

 

Rain mixed with wet snow changed to snow by around 8:00 a.m. in Kingston as the temperature dipped to just below freezing.

Areas north and west of Kingston have several inches of snow on the ground and there were reports of some roads covered in black ice this morning.  Tri-board Student Transportation Services reported several bus routes had cancelled the morning run due to road conditions.

 

Wolfe Islander Update

 

The Ministry of Transportation says the Wolfe Islander III is expected to arrive in Kingston this evening.

An update from MTO spokesperson Brandy Duhaime on Wednesday says it will return to service as soon as possible following its arrival in Kingston.  It will use the Dawson Point dock until its first trip from Marysville at 5:30 Saturday morning.

The Frontenac II will be returning to service for Amherst Island tomorrow.  Loyalist Township has issued a notice saying the Quinte Loyalist will be taken out of service at 9:20 tomorrow morning and service will be suspended until around 3pm to prepare the docks for the return of the Frontenac II.

 

Toronto – Amber Alert

 

The Amber Alert issued around 11:30 last night was cancelled about an hour later after police found a 13-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl safe and sound in Toronto.

Police have arrested one person.

 

Legacy Fund – Chris Groeneveld-Barry

 

A legacy fund to honour the young man who was stabbed to death in downtown Kingston has been established through The Community Foundation for Kingston and Area.

Chris Groeneveld-Barry died after being stabbed on September 12th.

The legacy fund, established by his family, will support local arts organizations that promote the principles of social inclusion and community engagement, as a legacy to Chris and his belief Art Transcends Barriers.

The Foundation is accepting donations.

Missing Man

 

Kingston Police is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 32-year-old Cliff Harris.

Harris was last seen by his community worker on October 31st in the east end of Kingston.  He left his cell phone behind and hasn’t been seen at his workplace in the west end of Kingston since last Thursday.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Cliff Harris is being asked to contact Kingston Police.

 

Robbery – Napanee

 

A 34-year-old man from Kingston and a 40-year-old woman have been charged in connection with a robbery at a residence on Water Street in Napanee.

Police say a resident of the home was assaulted and robbed of some personal property and cash late Saturday night.

Police arrested two suspects on Sunday.

Gordon Thomas Hole and Crystal Lynn Larabie have been charged with robbery and assault with a weapon and uttering death threats.

Hole has also been charged with possession of methamphetamine.

 

Trucker Charged – Watching TV

 

A trucker has been charged with watching TV on the dashboard of his rig on the westbound 401 in the area of Napanee.  Lennox and Addington County OPP say their communications centre received calls from other drivers about a transport truck swerving all over the 401 around 11:30 Tuesday night.

A 38-year-old man from Toronto with driving with a display screen visible.  Police say the offence carries a $680 fine.

 

Chamber Awards

 

The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce is holding its business awards gala tonight.

The winners of the 24th Annual Business Achievement Awards will be announced at the Ramada Hotel & Conference Centre.
