Prison – Drone Drops

Drones have dropped about a quarter of a million dollars’ worth of contraband at Collins Bay Institution during the first two weeks of October.

The Correctional Service says two packages were seized on October 3rd.  They contained about a pound of tobacco and 11 grams of crystal meth.

On October 10th a package containing 500 grams of crystal meth – that’s over a pound of methamphetamine – was seized by staff.

Packages containing cell phones and gear along with 167 grams of tobacco and a pound and a quarter (628 grams) of marijuana were seized on October 12th.

So far nobody has been arrested in connection with any of the drone drops at Collins Bay Institution.

Youth Arrested – Assault Police

Kingston Police have arrested a 17-year-old after a female police officer was assaulted on Saturday night during Queen’s Homecoming.  He has been charged with assaulting the officer, resisting arrest, escaping lawful custody and underage drinking.

Police say the incident started when the officer asked a man with open alcohol to identify himself.  They were able to identify a suspect using video supplied by people who watched what happened.

Police have also received video of a group of people who damaged the Red Bull promotional vehicle during the Aberdeen Street Party on Saturday.  It was so badly damaged when the promotional crew ran out of free drinks it had to be towed away on a flatbed truck.

Martha’s Table – Theft

Martha’s Table has lost the equivalent of two days of meals for people after a bank deposit bag was stolen.

The bag belonging to the charitable organization had been locked in the trunk of a vehicle.

It was stolen on October 6th.

Cheques in the bag were cancelled but the cash is gone.

Kingston Police say they have a person of interest in the theft who is already in custody facing other charges.
