Standoff

A standoff involving Kingston Police and a man barricaded in a building on Rideau Street ended with the man being arrested.

The standoff at a garage on Rideau Street started around 9:40 yesterday morning.

The man refused to leave the building.

Police negotiated with the man throughout the day and then used small explosive devices to distract him.  He was arrested following a brief struggle around 4pm.

 

Drug Bust

There’s been another drug bust in Napanee…the second this week.

A search warrant was executed at a residence on Dundas Street around 9:30 yesterday morning.

Police seized methamphetamine and hydromorphone.

34 year old Thomas Roger Breen and 24 year old Brittaney Leanne Baker have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Breen also faces five other charges including possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a Prohibition order.

Lennox and Addington County OPP commander, Inspector Scott Semple, says police will leave no stone unturned in going after drug dealers in the community.

 

Insomnia Research

Researchers at Queen’s University say if you have insomnia – ask your family doctor about Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.  The researchers reviewed the results of 13 studies involving almost 16 hundred people and concluded Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia is effective in improving a person’s sleep.

Dr. Judith Davidson says patients found four to six sessions helped when it comes to getting to sleep and sleeping for a longer period of time.

The results of their review have been published in the British Journal of General Practice.

Kingston ranks close to the top when it comes to the ranking of property taxes in 35 Ontario municipalities.  Kingston homeowners pay almost twice as much as homeowners in Toronto, Markham, Milton, Richmond Hill and Vaughn…the five cities with the lowest property taxes.

But the survey also found Kingston is ranked the fifth most affordable city when it comes to buying a home in Ontario…Toronto is the least affordable.

Rockin’ the Square

There’s a free concert taking place tonight in downtown Kingston.

The Canadian rock band Moist is performing in Springer Market Square.

Kingston’s Paper Ladies is the opening act.

The concert runs from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

 

Princess Street Promenade

Kingston’s main street becomes a pedestrian friendly festival zone on Saturday.

Princess Street will be closed from Barrie to Ontario Street for the Princess Street Promenade.

Kingston Transit is offering free rides on all of its routes tomorrow.  It is also partnering with Improbable Escapes to create an escape room on a parked transit bus at Princess and Bagot Streets.

Brian`s Record Option is presenting the Princess Street Jam with three bands confirmed to play from noon to 2pm.

 

K-Town Triathlon

The K-Town Triathlon takes place this Sunday.

Dozens of Streets will be closed to make way for the athletes competing in the annual event.

Limestone Blues – Bracelets on Sale
