Capital One – Costco

If you have a credit card through Costco or the Hudson’s Bay Company…the Capital One data hack is affecting you.

Costco Canada says senior management has been in constant contact with Capital One from the moment they were told about the data breach. There’s been no comment from H-B-C.

The data breach affects approximately six million Canadian who have credit cards through the two companies.

 

Power Plant Sale

A subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation is buying a natural gas powered electricity generating station in Napanee along with two others from a Calgary based company.  The deal with TC Energy Group is worth $2.87 billion dollars.

The 900 megawatt Napanee generating station is still under construction but is nearing completion.

Ontario Power Generation CEO Ken Hartwick says the natural gas generation will play a role in maintaining system reliability in Ontario.

 

Impaired – Assault While Driving

A 54 year old Kingston woman has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and assault with a weapon after a man was hit by a motor vehicle.

Kingston Police say the man had tried to stop the woman from driving on Monday night and was hit by the vehicle in the parking lot of a north end apartment building.

He was treated for minor injuries by paramedics and the woman was arrested.

 

Busted – Car Break Ins

A 19 year old Kingston man is facing five counts of trespassing at night and three counts of theft following a series of thefts from vehicles in the Woodhaven subdivision.

Kingston Police say security video shows a man breaking into five vehicles after midnight between July 22nd and July 24th.

The suspect was identified during a review of the video.

 

Drug Busts – Prince Edward County

Three people are facing drug charges following two separate investigations in Prince Edward County.

An OPP officer saw a drug deal taking place in a vehicle around 11:30 Friday night and arrested two people.

29 year old Ryan Conor Hobbs of Picton has been charged with trafficking cocaine and having cannabis readily available in a vehicle.

30 year old Andrew Robert Joseph Regimbal of Picton has been charged with possession of cocaine.

The other bust followed a break in at an apartment on Richmond Street where a woman was found inside.

35 year old Melissa Ann McGiffen of Picton has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, break and enter and breach of probation.

 

Roofing Scam

Prince Edward County OPP is investigating a possible roofing scam.

It started to investigate on July 16th when two people reported they’d paid for work on their roofs but no work had been started.

37 year old Michael Crandall of Consecon was charged earlier this month with two counts of fraud over $5,000.

The OPP says as of July 29th there have been five other people who have come forward with complaints about roofing work that was paid for and never done.

People have lost over $27,000.

Anyone else who may have been a victim of a roofing scam is being asked to contact the OPP.

 

Unusual Theft – Gates Stolen

Frontenac OPP is investigating an unusual theft.

It is asking for help from the public in tracking down whoever stole metal gates from the McFadden Road, Hogan Road and Perth Road entrances to the Cataraqui Trail in South Frontenac Township near Kingston.

Anyone with information on who may be responsible for the thefts is being asked to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers.

 

Speaker – Basic Income

Kingston city councillor Robert Kiley is the guest speaker tonight at a public session on a basic income guarantee and the fight against climate change.

Kiley is the former deputy leader of the Green Party of Ontario.

He’s also on city council’s Climate Change Working Group and a member of the Kingston Action Group for a Basic Income.

The session tonight hosted by 350 Kingston and Our Time Kingston starts at seven in the main hall at Unitarian Place on Concession Street.
