Traffic – Strike

A rally was being held this morning to support striking Commissionaires in Kingston.

The security guards who work at CFB Kingston, the Royal Military College and Fort Frontenac have been on strike for five weeks and no negotiations have been scheduled to try to end their dispute.

Members of other unions in the Kingston area joined the Commissionaires on the picket line this morning at the intersection of Highway 2 and Fort Henry Drive.

 

County Road Closure

County Road 6 in Loyalist Township will be closed at the rail crossing north of Taylor Kidd Boulevard this week for repairs to the crossing.

No traffic will be able to cross the tracks from 7am today until 5pm on Friday.

A detour has been set up.

 

Skydiving Death – Follow Up

The investigation into the death of a woman at Skydive Gananoque is now in the hands of the coroner.

The 63 year old woman from Ennismore, Ontario died in a tandem jump with a 51 year old employee of the skydiving business on Saturday afternoon.

Lynn Mackenzie of Ennismore died at the scene.  The 51 year old employee suffered serious injuries. The traffic accident injury claims in Augusta said that the incident requires detailed investigation.

The OPP says it has handed over the investigation to the coroner’s office.

 

Woman Charged – Car Assault

A Kingston woman has been charged with trying to run over her boyfriend with her car after he broke up with her.  Kingston Police say the man told the woman he no longer wanted to be involved with her or communicate with her last Thursday evening.

Police say the 28 year old woman drove her car at her boyfriend…he jumped to get out of the way but smashed into the windshield and received an injury to his arm.

The woman left the scene…but turned herself in the next day.

 

Hillier – Lawsuit Dropped

A libel lawsuit against Lanark, Frontenac -Kingston MPP Randy Hillier has been dropped.

Premier Doug Ford’s formed Chief of Staff, Dean French, has dropped the lawsuit.  His lawyer says French’s departure from the government made the legal action pointless.

Hillier was kicked out of the Progressive Conservative party in March.

The lawsuit had claimed Hillier tried to “destroy French’s reputation in a series of messages posted on Twitter.

Hillier later apologized and removed the messages.

Door to Door – Limestone Analytics

The City, Utilities Kingston and Queen’s University are conducting a survey on internet use and internet speeds and a door-to-door survey is part of the process.

Limestone Analytics will be going door to door in the areas of CFB Kingston, Gardiners-Meadowbrook, Henderson and Reddendale asking residents about their internet use. They will also ask to conduct an internet speed test.

The information collected will be used to support future funding applications for broadband infrastructure to improve Internet service in rural and urban Kingston.

People and businesses can also complete an online survey.

 

Horseless Carriage

You may see some really old cars in Kingston this week.

The Horseless Carriage Club of America Southern Ontario and North Jersey tour has stopped off in Kingston.

The club defines horseless carriages as any pioneer gas, steam and electric motor vehicle built or manufactured prior to January 1st, 1916.

The vehicle owners are staying at the Ambassador and are touring various attractions in the Kingston area.
