Impaired Driving Charges

A 48 year old man is facing several charges including impaired driving and leaving the scene of a collision, after being arrested on Sunday.

Around 7:40pm, witnesses spotted the accused driving west on Highway 2, where he drove into a ditch, striking a mailbox.

He then reversed out of the ditch, and continued driving…without a front bumper.

Police located him downtown, and took him into custody after a struggle.

A search revealed a small baggie containing drug paraphernalia, and what is suspected to be crystal meth.

His driver’s license was automatically suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded.

 

Deepwater Dock

A new engineering report comissioned by the city shows it would be costly to turn the Queen Street Wharf into a deepwater dock.

The report says more info about the works happening and states that renovations would cost upwards of 4.5 million dollars, factoring in the renovations of the existing dock, dredging the area, and onshore improvements, in addition to the cost of the property.

The goal is to make the wharf accessible for cruise ships coming through the Great Lakes.

City council is set to review the reports at their meeting tonight.

 

Doug Ford on French Appointments

Premier Doug Ford doesn’t want to talk about Dean French.

He says “regular folks” aren’t concerned about his former chief-of-staff, who resigned last month after he was accused of nepotism.

Instead, Ford says, people are worried about jobs.

Nonetheless, the province is conducting a review of all of French’s appointments, though critics worry that the investigation will be done behind closed doors.

 

Premiers in Saskatchewan

Canada’s 13 premiers are gathered in Saskatchewan today for the start of three days of meetings to talk trade, the economy and health care.

Host premier Scott Moe will open the meeting today at Big River First Nation as premiers meet with indigenous leaders, and then will spend the next two days in closed-door talks in Saskatoon

 

Buskers Arrest

A 41 year old man is facing multiple charges, after throwing objects into a crowd at Buskers Rendezvous this past weekend.

According to this content, the accused was spotted by witnesses on the roof of a building at the corner of Ontario and Clarence, throwing rocks and a large plate at the crowd who had gathered to watch the buskers.

Police quickly located the accused, and arrested him in a nearby parking garage after a quick foot chase.

A search revealed drug paraphernalia and a small baggy containing suspected crystal meth.

 

Midwives

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott says consultations are underway to expand midwives’ scope of practice with the body that regulates the profession in Ontario.

Elliott has asked the College of Midwives of Ontario to amend its drug regulations by the end of year to help patients access the most up-to-date treatments, and allow midwives to prescribe drugs.

Midwives in Ontario currently have to consult a physician if they want to prescribe some medications, such as certain narcotics.

The province is also continuing a commitment by the previous Liberal government to spend $28 million this year to expand midwifery.

 

St Lawrence Downtown Campus

St Lawrence College is set to ask Kingston’s city council to approve a plan for a new downtown campus.

A downtown college campus is a priority for council on their strategic priority list.

The campus would reportedly be part of the redevelopment of Block 4, located across from the Leon’s centre.

The partnership will be discussed at tonight’s city council meeting.
