Joyceville Lockdown

A lockdown is now in place in the assessment unit at Joyceville institution.

Staff issued the lockdown at around 11am on Friday, to allow staff to conduct an exceptional search.

Visits have been suspended until the search is completed.

The medium security unit at Collins Bay Institution is also currently in lockdown.

 

Golf Course Thieves

The OPP are asking for the Public’s help in identifying two men suspected of breaking into the Amherstview Golf Course.

The pair were caught on video by security cameras just before 4am on June 22nd.

They had their faces covered, and were seen carrying a backpack and duffel bag.

They allegedly stole cash from the golf course’s pro shop, and a number of shoes and bags from cars in the parking lot.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lennox and Addington Detachment of the OPP on their non-emergency line, or CrimeStoppers.

 

Cell Phone Issues

Canada’s mobile service providers are working to fix widespread network outages that have been effecting customers since yesterday afternoon.

They say many have been reporting issues with voice services, text messages and data services stil seem to be active.

Some customers are experiencing dropped calls, or an inability to place or receive calls on their cell phones.

The outages are effecting all the major providers, including Bell, Telus, Freedom Mobile, and Rogers, which owns K-Rock 105.7.

It is not certain what caused the issues, or when they will be fixed.

 

Northern Ontairo Wildfires

Residents of two Northern Ontario communities have been evacuated due to wildfire concerns.

For the second time in just over a month, residents of Pikangikum were forced out of their homes, by a fire that covers more than 400 square kilometres.

Another 720 square kilometre wildfire near Keewaywin First Nation has prompted the evacutation of the 420 residents, who have been flown to Timmins.

 

OPP Canada Day Stats

The OPP have released their Canada Day statistics, laying 6-thousand 6-hundred and 86 charges over the 3 day weekend across the province.

In the eastern region, speeding charges made up the bulk of the charges, with many also being charged for seat belt and distracted driving infractions.

The OPP is reminding everyone that safety should be a priority when travelling on roads and enjoying trails and waterways.
