Conservative – Prison Farms

The Conservative candidate for Kingston and the Islands in the federal election this fall is trying to downplay comments from Conservative MP James Bezan about prison farms.

Bezan recently visited Kingston and said closing the prison farms was the right decision…they should never have been re-opened…and they provide no marketable skills for inmates.

But the Kingston candidate…Ruslan Yakovichuck says he recognizes the value of prison farms in teaching offenders life skills, and keeping arable land in production.

Yakovichuk says he is concerned about the cost of operating the farms and shares concerns with Evolve Our Prison Farms about the treatment of animals.
