Colebrook – Fatal Fire

A 63 year old man has been identified as the victim of a fatal fire north of Yarker on Monday night.

Daryl Seymour was pronounced dead at the scene by the Regional Coroner.

The fire on County Road 6 in Colebrook was discovered around 11pm on Monday.

Stone Mills Fire and Rescue contained the fire and found Seymour inside the house.

His brother and another person managed to get out of the building.

Lennox and Addington County OPP and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.

 

Picton Fire

Fire has heavily damaged part of a residence operated by Social Services in Picton.

The fire broke out at 113 West Mary Street around noon on Saturday.

The fire caused extensive damage to the northeast end of the building.

None of the tenants were injured.

Tenants were able to return to nine of the 13 units on Monday…two of the units were destroyed and two suffered heavy smoke damage.

An overheated power bar in a bedroom has been pinpointed as the cause.

 

Missing Man – Napanee

Lennox and Addington County OPP was asking for the public’s help this morning in locating a missing 84 year old man.

Cecil Lockhart of Napanee was last seen at the Lennox and Addington Hospital in Napanee around 1:00 p.m. yesterday.  He could be driving a 2004 Ford Taurus.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Cecil Lockhart of Napanee is being asked to contact Lennox and Addington County OPP.

 

Missing Diver

The search continues for a scuba diver who went missing in the St. Lawrence River near Cornwall.

The OPP says a diver returned to shore on Macdonell Island just before 9am yesterday…but his partner didn’t surface.

The search yesterday involved the OPP marine unit…two RCMP boats, U-S Customs and Border Protection, the Canadian Coast Guard and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center at CFB Trenton with its helicopter.

The search will continue today with the OPP dive team.

 

Art Installation

A unique public art installation will be officially launched at the Invista Centre tonight.

Three local artists were selected to create the art in the atrium of the west end arena.

The artwork features a large-scale mural titled Waterway by Danielle Folkerts and six pillar wraps, including the Portals Series by Shannon Brown and The Toy Camera Series by Anna Soper.

The launch event for the temporary art installation takes place from 6 to 7:30 tonight.

 

Electric Vehicle Club

The first meeting of the Kingston Electric Vehicle Society will take place starting at seven tonight at the Invista Centre.

Organizer Spencer Bardell says the club will provide a chance for electric vehicle owners to discuss issues.  Bardell says it will also be a resource for people considering buying an electric vehicle.

 

Napanee Hotel

A new hotel will officially open in Napanee today.

The Comfort Inn and Suites has 66 guest rooms.  It is located at 31 Community Road in Napanee…just north of the 401.

The hotel started accepting guest on June 3rd and the official opening takes place at 10 this morning.
