School Board Cuts

Kingston’s Limestone District School Board will have 10 fewer secondary teachers in September.

According to the board’s Director of Education, Debra Rantz, the cuts are a direct result of funding cuts by the provincial government.

Last Thursday, 66 Limestone-board employees were given redundancy notices.

Walk To End ALS

Hundreds of people gathered for the Walk to End ALS, Saturday morning.

The walk through downtown Kingston raised over $20,000 this year, bringing the fundraising total to nearly $75,000.

The organizing committee had an original goal of $60,000 and are still accepting donations online.

Ride For Dad

The Telus Ride For Dad was also held over the weekend.

It raised $20,000 for prostate cancer research and saw hundreds of riders take part.

Cigarette Recycling

The City and Downtown Kingston! are pleased with their new cigarette-butt recycling program, so far.

Although they don’t have any firm-stats just yet, the groups say the new cigarette-butt disposal containers are resulting in fewer butts on sidewalks and positive feedback from residents.

The containers, put in place in April, are emptied weekly and butts are sent to a recycling facility.
