Kingston Terrorism

A 16 year old Kingston boy who faces five terrorism related charges is back in custody after being released on bail earlier this month.

Kingston police say the youth was arrested by a patrol unit on Sunday and charged with mischief and breach of bail conditions.

He was remanded in custody after appearing for a bail hearing yesterday and will make a court appearance by video link next Tuesday.

 

Robbery – Arrest

Kingston Police say a man arrested for a robbery at a west end store was carrying a large hatchet.

The man had his face covered with a scarf – large sunglasses and a bandana on Saturday night when he demanded cash from the clerk…then walked behind the counter…grabbed cash and tried to leave the store. He was stopped by an employee and two customers and held for police.

The 20 year old Kingston man faces charges including robbery with an offensive weapon and breach of probation

 

Copper Theft

A man from Kingston and one from Stone Mills have been charged with stealing copper wire after a traffic stop in Napanee.  The OPP stopped a pickup truck at 12:40 a.m. on Friday and found the stolen copper wire.

24 year old Shane Joseph McFadden of Kingston and 31 year old William Earl Fraser both face charges of possession of property obtained by crime.  McFadden is also charged with failing to comply with conditions from a previous arrest and Fraser faces a charge of breach of probation.

 

Green Party – Kingston Nomination

The Kingston Green Party will be choosing its candidate for this falls federal election on May 30th and there are two people in the running.

Youth wellness advocate Candice Christmas and 19 year old St. Lawrence College student Zachary Typhair are vying for the nomination.

Christmas has worked in health care and economic development and is completing her PhD in Health Policy and Equity.

Typhair worked on Bridget Doherty and Robert Kiley’s successful city council campaigns and was the Green Party of Ontario youth representative during the last Ontario election.

 

PEI Election – Green Party

Voters in Prince Edward Island have elected a Progressive Conservative minority government with the Green Party set to become the official opposition.

The Tories won 12 ridings in yesterday’s election.  The Green Party won eight seats.

The Liberals won in six ridings.

 

Interfaith Vigil

An Interfaith vigil will take place in Kingston today to pay tribute to the victims of a wave of bombings in Sri Lanka.  People will gather in City Park near Barrie and Stuart Streets at 5:30 this afternoon.

The bombings on Easter Sunday killed more than 350 people.

 

School Board Budget

The Limestone District School Board is encouraging people to submit suggestions for its budget for the upcoming school year.

Trustees with the school board are accepting written submissions from school and community stakeholders until May 9th.

The budget for the upcoming fiscal year has to be approved by the school board before the end of June.
