Woman – Dog Napper

Kingston Police say they have completed an investigation into a report of a man suspected of being a dog napper and it turns out he was delivering newspapers in the Greenwood Park area.

A Kingston woman said she believed the man was trying to break into her backyard to steal her dog around 4am Tuesday.

She heard the dog barking and saw a man running to a white van parked on the street.

Kingston Police say they have talked to the man and he had been delivering a newspaper to the home next door.

 

Poverty Petition

The Kingston Coalition Against Poverty is collecting signatures on a petition asking the city to open a new 20 bed shelter for homeless people.

The online petition says the group agrees with the cities 10 year housing and homelessness plan – but the city’s own surveys have found no reduction in the number of unsheltered homeless people in Kingston and the number of people on the waiting list for affordable housing is growing.

The group says its petition will be presented to city council after it gets 2,000 signatures.

Trespassing – Rock Dunder

The OPP is reminding people Rock Dunder Nature Reserve is not open to the public yet.

The popular spot near Seeley’s Bay is actually private property and the OPP says it is patrolling the area and will charge people they’re caught trespassing.  A news release says officers can also arrest a person who is trespassing on private property.

 

Inmate Watch

Police have issued a notice asking for help from the public in locating a 25 year old convict who failed to return to his halfway house in Kingston.

Fern Joyal is serving a sentence on a variety of charges including break and enter, uttering threats to cause death and possession of a weapon.

The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad says Joyal signed out of the halfway house in Kingston on April 1st and failed to return.

He has a number of tattoos on his neck and a star tattoo on his right cheek.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

 

New Park Input

The city has announced it will hold public consultations on the development of a new park in a brand new neighbourhood.

The West Village subdivision is being developed near Taylor-Kidd Boulevard.

The park is being developed in partnership with the new French language high school that will be built as part of the subdivision.

An open house to get input on the design and information on the name of the park is being held at the Invista Centre on April 24th.

 

Drunk Driver – Wolfe Island

A single vehicle collision on Wolfe Island has resulted in a 70 year old man being charged with impaired driving.

The man was charged following the crash around 8:20 p.m. Saturday night.

He has been ordered to appear in a Brockville courtroom on May 9th to face impaired driving charges and several other charges.

 

Wolfe Island Ferry

The Wolfe Island ferry will resume using the dock in Marysville this weekend.

The MTO says The Wolfe Islander III will start using the dock in Marysville starting with its first run at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday.

 

Model U-N

Some high school students in Kingston are involved in world politics this week.

The Limestone District School Board Model United Nations is being held in the auditorium at KCVI.

Students work on resolving global issues as a United Nations delegates.

The model U-N got underway yesterday and continues today and tomorrow.

 

Lottery Prize

A group of 57 people from Kingston and across the region is waiting to have their lottery win of almost 300 thousand dollars confirmed.

The group has claimed the prize from the LOTTO MAX draw on September 21st.

They are employees of an OLG supplier and that means it is considered an insiders win.  They’ve cleared the first hurdle in the insider win process.  The 57 people will each get just over $5,200 on May 9th if nobody else comes forward to make a claim for a share of the cash.
