Protest – Dispute – Napanee

A protest by members of the high school teachers union in Napanee and an impromptu visit to a business in Napanee by Premier Doug Ford has created some bad feelings in the town.

Members of the union have boycotted a store in Napanee following their protest at the office of Progressive Conservative MPP Daryl Kramp.

The owners of Seasons Fine Foods asked them to stay away from the front of their business and police were called.  The next day Premier Ford visited the store. The owners posted a picture with him on social media.  They’ve taken the picture down after getting threats and posts on social media about boycotting their business.  The owners say posting the picture wasn’t a message of support for Doug Ford.  They say it was just because he is the Premier of Ontario and had visited their store.

Sunshine List

There are hundreds of people in Kingston on the sunshine list…Ontario’s list of public sector employees who earned over 100 thousand dollars last year.

Topping it in Kingston is Queen’s Principal Daniel Woolf who earned 410 thousand last year.  St. Lawrence College President Glenn Vollebregt earned $267,000.

The list for Kingston includes almost every firefighter…at least half of Kingston Police…doctors, professors and others whose salaries were paid by taxpayers.

401 Crash

Nobody was injured when a fire destroyed a transport truck and closed down the westbound 401 between Highway 32 and Joyceville Road.

The truck was fully engulfed in flames on the shoulder of the highway at around 4 yesterday afternoon.

Eric Lee – Next of Kin

Kingston Police and the Regional Coroner’s Office are hoping next of kin will come forward after the death of Eric Lee…the man known as the Elevator Guy in the former S&R department store.  Lee passed away on March 4th and nobody has claimed his body.

Lee ran for mayor last year and had been in poor health before he was found in the small apartment where he lived in.

Police and the coroner haven’t been able to track down any of his family and are asking for help from the public in finding his next of kin.
