Wind – Power

Environment Canada ended the wind warning for the Kingston area shortly after 8:00 a.m.

 

School buses were operating today…but…there were several cancellations for buses serving schools in Kingston and all buses in North Hastings were been cancelled due to blowing snow.

 

There have been a number of power failures in the area.

Hydro One is working on restoring the power and has dispatched repair crews.

Utilities Kingston was working to restore power after an outage in the area of Queen Mary Road and Fairway Hills Crescent.

Stabbing

A Kingston man has been arrested after another man was stabbed in the neck.

It happened Friday night at the McDonald’s on Division Street.

Kingston Police say it appears to have been a completely random act.

The victim was a customer and has since been released from hospital.

A 24 year old man was arrested at the scene and is facing charges.

 

Buses Damaged

The windows on two Kingston Transit buses have been damaged by some type of projectiles.

It happened shortly after 7pm on Saturday in the area of Virginia and Guthrie Streets.

There were no injuries.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is being asked to contact Kingston Police or Crime Stoppers.

 

Champion Swimmer

Two Canadian Records have been set in the pool at the Kingston YMCA.

The Y Penguins held their 11th annual Big Chill Swim Meet on the weekend.

Abi Tripp set records in the 50 metre and 100 metre breast stroke.

Coach Vicki Keith says the record setting swims put Tripp in a perfect position for the upcoming Canadian Swim Trials for the World Championships and Para Pan Am Games.

 

Queen’s – Canadian Top Ten

An annual ranking of universities has placed Queen’s number ten on the top ten list of Universities in Canada.

The QS World University Ranking have been released for 2019.

Queen’s ranks 10th in Canada.  It placed fourth in the medical doctoral category and 239th in the world…a slight drop from last year.  The University of Toronto is ranked number one in Canada and 28th in the world.

26 Canadian universities were ranked based on six indicators including employer and academic reputations and the impact of their research.
