Storm Watch

Kingston is under a winter storm watch.

Environment Canada says snow will begin tomorrow morning and combined with winds gusting at up to 70km/h there will be reduced visibility in blowing and drifting snow.  Snowfall amounts of 25 to 35 cm are expected in this region before it tapers off during the day on Wednesday.

The snow is associated with a Colorado low that will cross Southern Ontario tomorrow and Wednesday.

 

Fire – Shillington Place

Kingston Fire and Rescue says nobody was injured in a fire at a home on Shillington Place in Kingston’s west end.  Crews responded to the call at around 11 last night.

They were greeted by the homeowner who said his dryer was on fire in the basement and he wasn’t able to put it out with his home extinguisher.

The fire was quickly put out and smoke was cleared from the home.  Damage was limited to the basement area.

 

Murder Charges

Three men from Kingston are facing second degree murder charges in the shooting death of a man at his home in Trent Hills last August.  They have also been charged with robbery with a firearm.

Scott McDonald was gunned down in his driveway on August 18th.

The OPP has charged 37-year-old Christopher Hulsman, 26-year-old Andrew Misztal and 22-year-old Steffan Hache.

 

Party City – Crash

The front of the Party City store on Midland Avenue was damaged when a van crashed into the building.

The van hit the front of the store around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.  It smashed through the large windows at the front of the building.  Nobody was injured but the crash caused significant damage to the store.

 

Close Call – ATV through Ice

A close call for two men who went through the ice on the Bay of Quinte in Belleville.

The men were on an ATV when they went through the ice around 7:30 on Saturday morning.  Both were pulled from the water by two men who had been fishing nearby.

They were taken to Belleville General Hospital for treatment of hypothermia.

 

Search and Rescue Exercise

A lot of people were looking skyward in Kingston on Sunday.

A Canadian Forces Hercules aircraft and Griffon Helicopter were flying over Kingston yesterday.

They were involving in a search and rescue exercise at the Royal Military College.  It was part of professional development activities for Officer Cadets at RMC.

Youth Mental Health

Organizers are urging people to take advantage of a discussion on Youth and Mental Health in Kingston on Wednesday night.

Guest speakers Debra Lefebvre of Limestone City Mental Health and Angele D’Alessio of the Canadian Mental Health Association will discuss key strategies and resources to help youth in mental health distress or in crisis.

The session runs from 6:30 to 8:30 at Bay Park Baptist Church at 775 Progress Avenue and there is no admission fee.
