Fourth Man Arrested

A fourth person has been arrested in Brockville in connection with a shooting at a Fraser Street Apartment building in Kingston on January 29th.  Three men had tried to get into an apartment and when they failed they opened fire on the outside of the building.  The 38 year old man from Brockville arrested yesterday was the fourth and final person police were looking for. Two men were arrested in Brockville last week and another man was arrested in Brockville on Monday.  All four face a number of charges including attempted murder.

 

Pornography Charges

A 28 year old Kingston man has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Kingston Police say an ongoing project to detect and monitor file sharing networks associated with child pornography led them to the man.  A search warrant was executed at a home north of Kingston early Wednesday morning and multiple digital devices were seized.

 

Grocery Manager – Fraud

The manager of a grocery store in Kingston has been charged with defrauding his employer of over $36,000.

Kingston Police say the 29 year old man from Belleville had worked as a manager at the company’s stores in Whitby and Kingston from August of 2017 to August of 2018. He been charged with a variety of fraudulent acts including making refunds on his personal debit and credit cards and shorting cash deposits.

 

Marijuana Fight

A 24 year old Kingston man and a 20 year old Kingston woman have both been charged with assault after what turned out to be a fight over marijuana.

Kingston Police were called to an apartment in mid-town Kingston around 3:15 on Wednesday afternoon to investigate a dispute and found a man hugging a dog while the woman was yelling at him.  The officers were shown a video of the man running from an apartment with his dog while the woman chased and tackled him. The woman is then seen kicking the man repeatedly until he gets to his feet and punches the woman.

 

Sandy Pines – Fundraising

The Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre is holding one of its largest annual fundraising events this weekend at the Frontenac Mall.  Its 14th Annual Art and Jewelry Sale is aimed at raising money and also raising awareness about the work of the well-known animal rescue centre in Napanee.  Sandy Pines is currently taking care of 163 wild animals ranging from turtles and birds to flying squirrels.  The sales runs from today through Sunday.

 

Mayors Innovation Challenge

Nine teams of students in Kingston will be making their pitches today in the Mayor’s Innovation Challenge.

The student teams will pitch their solutions to a set of challenges in front of a panel of judges including Mayor Bryan Paterson, Acting CAO Lanie Hurdle and community leaders between 9:30 and noon in council chambers at City Hall.  Participants will then rub elbows during a catered reception in Memorial Hall.

 

Febfest – Hockey Day in Kingston

Febfest continues in downtown Kingston this weekend with Hockey Day in Springer Market Square tomorrow.

Local atom and novice boys and girls teams will be taking to the ice.  The Historic Hockey Tournament will also take place tomorrow afternoon with games between Queen’s, RMC and CFB Petawawa.

There will also be a special celebration of the 50th anniversary of Kingston’s Red Barons…a group of pioneering women’s hockey players.

Toronto Maple Leafs hockey legend Bobby Baun will be on site signing autographs.

 

Clarinet Returned

A Kingston musician who had his clarinet stolen on Sunday night has had it returned after taking to social media to ask for its return.  Spencer Evans had also offered a $100 reward for the return of the clarinet.

He had left it in an old knapsack on his front porch on Sunday night and it was taken by someone.

Evans says it was returned to his home around six last night along with the backpack and he gave the person the reward – no questions asked.  Evans says the instrument has travelled the world with him and he is so thankful to have it back.
