Secret Deal

The wraps are off the secret deal the city of Kingston has cut with Homestead Landholdings.

The deal involves the city’s support for a 19 storey apartment building and a 23 storey apartment building built on Queen Street in downtown Kingston.  Planning director Paige Agnew says her team has worked for months to come to a settlement.  She says the two high rise structures will define a new expectation in urban design and architectural excellence.

The plans incorporate commercial uses at street level and an art gallery.

The report will be presented to city council on Tuesday but the city says it will attend the Land Planning Appeal Tribunal hearing on the high rise buildings in support of Homestead’s proposal.
