Indecent Exposure – KINGSTON

A 37 year old man is facing numerous charges, after exposing himself and throwing a puppy.

Around 3pm on Monday, the accused was walking on a sidewalk in the north end of the city, while holding his genitals and yelling at people.

When a witness told him to leave, he picked up a puppy that was outside, and threw the dog into an apartment.

A minor altercation followed, when the owner came out to confront him.

Police arrested the accused about 2 hours later, and charged him with committing an indecent act, assault, willfully causing pain to an animal, and causing a disturbance.

The dog suffered minor injuries.

Queen’s Park Summer Session

The Ontario government has capped off a rare and tumultuous summer sitting of the legislature by passing a controversial bill to cut Toronto city council nearly in half.

It’s one of two bills the government passed over the last month — the other is an omnibus legislation that included back-to-work measures for striking university staff and the cancellation of a green energy project.

The government has also introduced a bill to scrap cap and trade, and announced a number of other plans, including the removal of an updated sex-ed curriculum and the elimination of a basic income pilot project.

The legislature is set to resume on September 24th.

Hydro One

There is a new board of directors in place at Ontario’s largest utility.

Hydro One announced that a new 10-member board has been named to replace the 14-member board that resigned last month.

The new directors were named in part by Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government and in part by Hydro One’s nominating committee.

The utility’s board makeup was a key campaign issue for Ford, who labelled the company’s CEO “the six-million-dollar man,” and promised to fire him if elected.

Genoa Bridge Collapse

Rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing this morning in Italy, after a large section of a highway bridge collapsed in Genoa.

The Morandi Bridge collapsed without warning Tuesday, sending dozens of vehicles plunging as much as 50 metres below.

Blue Algae

KFL&A public health is reminding everyone to watch out for blue-green algae in regional waterways.

If your private drinking supply comes from a lake or river where the algae is present, they recommend using an alternative.

They emphasize to not consume OR bathe in water that has been exposed.

Toxins can irritate the skin, and if ingested, can cause diarrhea and vomiting. At high enough levels, the toxins may cause liver and nervous system damage.

Dense blue-green algae blooms may make the water look like pea soup, and can be shades of blue, blue-green, yellow, brown, or red. Fresh blooms often smell like fresh cut grass, older blooms smell like rotting garbage.
