Crash – Hwy 38

 

Police say nobody was seriously injured in a head on crash that closed Highway 38 north of Kingston on Monday afternoon.  The highway was closed after a Home Hardware truck and an SUV collided.  A woman was taken to hospital by paramedics for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Kingston police closed Highway 38 between Van Order Road and Unity Road while they investigated the crash.  There’s no word on charges in the crash.

 

Cell Phone – Theft

 

A 15 year old Kingston boy is facing charges after a woman who bought a cell phone was threatened with a knife in front of her children.  Kingston Police say the woman had arranged to buy a cell phone through an online sales App and went to pick it up in the parking lot of an apartment building around 5:15 Friday afternoon.  Police say a youth produced a large kitchen knife after getting the money and giving the woman the phone.  He held it to the woman’s chest while her children were screaming and crying.  He took back the cell phone and ran to the apartment building.  The 15 year old has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, two counts of breaching previous conditions and two counts of breach of probation.

 

Shoplifters – Busted

 

Kingston Police say they were busy arresting shoplifter on the weekend.  Four people ranging in age from 28 to 41 were arrested.  Police say two were carrying drugs, one was arrested after causing a disturbance and one was arrested leaving a store as an officer was driving by.

All four are facing multiple charges.

 

Cyclists

 

You may need to share the road with a large group of cyclists today.

Approximately 3000 cyclists are travelling along Highway 33 from Adolphustown to Kingston today in the annual Toronto People with AIDS Foundation, Friends for Life Bike Rally.  They will arrive at Queen’s University and spend the night in Kingston before heading out to Gananoque and Johnstown tomorrow.

 

Rose of Hope

 

The Rose of Hope Golf tournament is celebrating its 20th anniversary by welcoming more than 150 golfers today.  The tournament organizers have made a five year pledge to raise $500,000 for improvements to the breast screening unit at Hotel Dieu Hospital.

The tournament raised a record $140,000 last year to support the breast reconstruction program at the Kingston Health Sciences Complex.

Over the past 20 years it has raised more than $1.6 million for cancer services in the region.

 

B-25 Bomber Visit

 

A World War Two bomber is visiting Kingston again and you can tour the plane at the Kingston airport and even take a flight on the B-25 Bomber.  Maid in the Shade arrived in Kingston yesterday and is being hosted by the Kingston Flying Club.  Nearly 10,000 B-25s were made and this is one of only 34 that remain flying today.

It will be open for tours starting today and will take people on flights Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The flights cost $325 for a gunner seat and $650 for a front jump seat.
