Snow – Travel

 

If you have travel plans this weekend – driving conditions will be a challenge if the forecast is right.

There’s 5cm of snow expected today and Environment Canada says Kingston could get even more with snow blowing in off Lake Ontario.  Snow is forecast to continue tonight and through tomorrow. The Kingston area could get a total of 20 cm or more by Sunday and the forecast for Sunday calls for a 70% chance of snow.

 

Gallienne – More Charges

 

The man convicted of sexually assaulting more than a dozen choir boys at St. George’s Cathedral in Kingston in the late 1970’s and throughout the 1980’s has been charged again by Kingston Police.

73-year-old John Gallienne now lives in Ottawa and turned himself in at police headquarters in Kingston on February 2nd.  He has been charged with gross indecency and two counts of sexual assault.

Police say they began their investigation last November when a man came forward to report incidents that took place between 1985 and 1986 when he was 10 years old.

 

YMCA – Unification Exploration

 

The YMCAs in Kingston, Brockville, The Central East Y in Belleville and Quinte West are exploring whether not they should join forces and become one organization.

Richard Christie is Board Chair of the YMCA of Kingston.  Christie says all three YMCA’s are looking to the future and are trying to find better ways to serve their communities.  He says they’re excited about the potential of joining forces – but nothing has been decided yet.

He says the process is expected to unfold throughout 2018.

 

Hospital Donation

 

The University Hospitals Kingston Foundation has held a thank you celebration for a donation of $673,000 from the W.J. Henderson Foundation.

A ceremony was held yesterday to say thank you for a gift from the foundation of half a million dollars to Atrial Fibrillation Research and $173,000 for upgrades to the Honourable W.J. Henderson Board Room.

Since 1992, the W.J. Henderson Foundation has donated over $2.5 million dollars to Kingston hospitals.

 

Hillier – PC Leadership

 

The Conservative MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston says he is supporting Christine Elliot in her campaign to replace Patrick Brown as leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party.

Randy Hillier says he believes Elliot has the skills, experience, integrity, and leadership required to get Ontario back on track.

Hillier has sent a newsletter to his constituents explaining his position and inviting them to join the Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston Conservative Associations meeting tomorrow at 10am in Beckwith.

 

Feb Fest – Curling/Historic Hockey

 

Feb Fest continues in downtown Kingston this weekend with a curling demonstration this afternoon and historic hockey on Saturday.

Paul Langlois of The Tragically Hip will be in Springer Market Square this afternoon as Greater Kingston Curling puts on a demonstration.  Langlois is helping promote Kingston’s bid for the 2020 Brier.

 

The 50th Annual Historic Hockey Series takes to the ice in the Square from 2pm to 4pm tomorrow.  RMC, Queen’s and CFB Petawawa will vie for the trophy using original equipment including a square puck.  The round robin event is presented by The Original Hockey Hall of Fame at the Invista Centre.
