Father – Sexual Assault

A 60 year old Kingston man has been charged with sexually assaulting his teenage daughter.

Kingston Police were contacted by Family and Children’s Service about a suspected sexual assault last Friday.  Police say the girl had been afraid to share her story for fear of what might happen to her family.

Investigators have charged the man with sexually abusing his daughter on multiple occasions over the past two years.  He has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference with a person under 16, invitation to sexual touching, and sexual exploitation.

Ticket Sales Act

The Ontario government has passed the legislation aimed at protect ticket buyers…a bill based on one proposed by Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala after outrage over scalper bots scooping up tickets for The Tragically Hips final concert in Kingston. The legislation bans ticket bots and bans tickets from being resold at more than 50 per cent above face value.

It’s part of new consumer-protection legislation that includes strengthening rules around home warranties, real estate practices and travel services.

East End Hotel

A new hotel is in the planning stages for Kingston’s east end.

The city says it is in the early stages of considering a proposal for a six storey…105 room hotel at Highway 15 and Innovation Drive.

City Councillor Ryan Boehme represents Pittsburgh District and says the project needs a minor variance before it can proceed.

Lock it or Lose It

Kingston Police are reminding you to lock your vehicle.

Police issued the reminder yesterday saying during the busy holiday season it’s easy to get distracted and leave your vehicle unlocked.  The unfortunate result could be the theft of your purchases or valuables.  Police say you should lock goods in the trunk and keep valuables out of sight.

You may find a friendly reminder notice on your windshield as police and their community volunteers check vehicles in their “Lock it or Lose It” campaign in Kingston this month.

History File

From Tony’s Today in History File…blame it on the movie!

On this day…December 14th, 1977…the movie “Saturday Night Fever,” starring John Travolta, premiered in New York City.

The movie was largely responsible for the spread of the disco craze. Its soundtrack, featuring hits by the “Bee Gees,” “Kool and the Gang” and “KC and the Sunshine Band,” would become the best-selling LP of all time until Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was released in 1982.
