Las Vegas – Shooting

The motive behind Sunday’s deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas remains a mystery, as police try to learn more about the gunman.

At least 59 people were killed and more than 500 wounded when the attacker opened fire on concert-goers at a country music festival.

Police have identified the shooters as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock.

Paddock killed himself as officers stormed his hotel room,

Authorities say international terror organizations were not involved, despite claims of responsibility from the Islamic State group.

Two Canadians — a mother of four from Alberta and a young mechanic from B-C — were killed in the attack.

A Kingston native was at the concert and says she thought she was going to die.

Jess Hall told Global News…she and a friend could hear and feel bullets hitting the fence they were up against.  She says they were able to escape in a cab that had stopped at a nearby traffic light.

Wanted Man – Kingston

Kingston Police hopes the public can help locate a 34 year old man wanted for a domestic assault on Sunday evening.

Police say Matthew Greene is also wanted on charges of break and enter and breach of probation.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Matthew Greene is being asked to contact Kingston Police or Crime Stoppers.

Swan – Euthanized

The trumpeter swan rescued from a lake north of Verona has been euthanized.

Rob and Lisa Fenwick rescued the swan from Second Depot Lake on Sunday, September 24th and took it to Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre in Napanee.  Sandy Pines says the bird had wounds from being shot three times with a pellet or BB gun and had a broken wing that couldn’t be repaired.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is investigating the shooting of the bird.

Impaired Driving

A Kingston woman has been charged with impaired driving after police stopped a vehicle on the 401 westbound in Tyendinaga Township.

The OPP says officers responded to a report of a vehicle weaving all over the highway on Sunday night.

The 29 year old woman has been charged with impaired driving, failing to comply with recognizance, driving while under suspension and driving with open liquor in the vehicle.

Deputy Commissioner – Change of Command

There’s been a change of command ceremony for the Ontario Region of the Correctional Service of Canada.

The ceremony yesterday marked the change in command from outgoing Regional Deputy Commissioner Mike Ryan, to incoming Regional Deputy Commissioner Scott Harris.

The Ontario region has its headquarters in Kingston.
