MAN CHARGED WITH UTTERING DEATH THREATS
A 26-year-old Kingston man has been charged after police say he made threats through text messages toward his ex-girlfriend. Last Sunday police received information the accused had sent a message to someone stating that he was going to kill “her” and he had a gun. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he turned himself in Wednesday morning. He was charged with utter threats to cause death and utter threats to cause bodily harm.

FORENSIC TESTING LEADS TO ARREST
Forensic testing on a stolen vehicle has lead to the arrest of Kingston man. On the evening of May 26 two suspects were seen entering a motor vehicle behind an apartment building on Stanley Street; The vehicle had been heavily damaged inside and out.  Blood and other liquid were also spread throughout the vehicle. Forensic testing lead to a suspect and police were able to locate and arrest him on Wednesday. He was taken to police headquarters. Police are still looking for a second suspect.

ROCK DUNDER LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
This season has wreaked havoc on local waterways, roadways and has damaged a lot of property due to high water levels and heavy rains. Rock Dunder has not been spared the effects of this year’s heavy rainfall. The hiking trails and entranceway to the community land have been washed out in the downpours, and they’re looking to the public for help. Volunteers are needed to assist in a number of different projects including general labour to repair the trails. CITY GIVES HABITAT LAND FOR $1
Habitat for Humanity has secured a bargain-basement deal to build more affordable housing in Kingston. The City of Kingston is virtually giving away some surplus land it owns in Kingston East to the non-profit organization, for the grand sum of $1. Councillors agreed to donate 0.2 acres of vacant municipal land at 297 Gore Rd. to allow Habitat to build as many as four houses on the site.

WOLFE ISLAND FERRY INFO SESSIONS
The Ministry of Transportation will be holding two public information sessions on  the Environmental Assessment for the Wolfe Island Ferry and Docking Improvements. The first one will be held on Wolfe Island Aug. 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sacred Heart School, and the second in Kingston Aug. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Holiday Inn, Kingston Waterfront. This final round of sessions will provide people the opportunity to review and discuss the EA process and provide input. A community advisory group meeting will be held sometime in September.

SHEEP DOG TRIALS ON THIS WEEKEND
Kingston Annual Sheep Dog Trials get under way today at Grass Creek Park. The annual event attracts 7000 people and many of the world’s top trials handlers and dogs. There is a free shuttle service to and from Grass Creek Park with three convenient pick up and drop off locations. Those locations are the Toys R Us Parking Lot, the Memorial Center and The Marriott Hotel downtown. Visit www.kingstonsheepdogtrials.com for the shuttle schedule and a list of all the events.
