State Trooper Shot

A soldier at Fort Drum has been arrested after a New York state trooper was shot to death while responding to a domestic dispute in Jefferson County.

Trooper Joel Davis was shot as he approached a home in the town of Theresa last night.

32 year old Justin Walters surrendered later surrendered to police.

The body of his 27 year old wife was found at the scene.

Another woman had been shot but didn’t suffer life threatening injuries.

Armed Robbery

Police are asking for help from the public after the Mac’s Convenience Store at Bath Road and Portsmouth Avenue was been robbed.

Surveillance video released by police shows a man walking up to the counter around 2:30 Saturday morning …putting his arm over the shoulder of a customer and setting down a handgun on the counter.

He was wearing a bandana over his face and demanded money.

He got what was in the till and took off through the door nearest to Portsmouth Avenue.

Water Rescue

A kayaker is being credited with helping to rescue two people from the water after their canoe capsized on the Cataraqui River near the intersection of Montreal Street and John Counter Boulevard.

The canoe capsized at around 7:30 last night.

The kayaker helped the two people to shore…they were wearing lifejackets.

They were checked by paramedics and released.  Kingston Fire and Rescue used its fireboat to recover the canoe.

Soccer Field – Teen to Pay

The 17 year old driver who did donuts on four soccer fields at John Machin Soccer Park will be paying for the repairs.  Kingston Police say the teens parents have assured them taxpayers will not be responsible for the cost of repairs – estimated at over $5,000.

There’s no word on when the fields will be ready for use again after repairs were made last week.

Napier Street

Kingston city council may decide on the future of Napier Street as a through street when it meets tomorrow night.

The city is considering closing the block of Napier between Mack and Brock Streets.

If it is closed it would become part of the park being created on the property that used to be home to St. Joseph St. Mary Catholic School.

A staff report contains three options…leave the street the way it is at no cost…close Napier Street and create a new driveway for the home at Mack and Dundas at a cost of up to 80 thousand dollars…or close the street and create a cul de sac at a cost of up to $710,000.
