Credit Union Robbery

Kingston Police say the man who robbed a credit union in the west end ditched the bicycle he used for his getaway and may have changed his clothing.

The man walked into the Kawartha Credit Union on Strand Boulevard around 12:15 yesterday afternoon…indicated he had a weapon…demanded cash and took off on a bicycle with an undisclosed amount of money.

He was seen ditching the bicycle on Westminster Place where he got into a cream coloured Chrysler 300 sedan with a black grill and black wheels.

Vandalism

Vandals have caused over five thousand dollars damage at a garden centre north of Napanee.

Planters were smashed, hoses ripped apart and benches were broken at the Selby Garden Centre on Pleasant Drive in Selby.

Napanee OPP says the damage was done sometime between 5:30 on Sunday afternoon and 9:30 on Monday morning.

Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact Napanee OPP or Crime Stoppers.

Driver Bites Pedestrian

A 58-year-old Kingston driver has been charged after a pedestrian was bitten on the nose for yelling at a motorist.

Kingston Police say it happened after the pedestrian yelled at a driver for going through a red light at Johnson and King Streets on Saturday afternoon.

Police say the driver turned himself in at police headquarters on Monday evening.

He’s been charged with assault.

Best Places to Live

Survey says…Kingston is number 46 on the list of Canada’s Best Places to Live in an annual survey by Money Sense Magazine.

Kingston was ranked third just five years ago.

The survey rates 400 cities in Canada.

Kingston got top marks for being a walkable city and having good health care…but…scored poorly in other categories.

Ottawa was ranked as the top place in Canada to live – The only other Ontario city in the top ten was Burlington – ranked as 9th.

Ride – Prostate

A 72 year old two time cancer survivor will be cycling into Kingston today on his journey to the Honda Indy racetrack in Toronto.

Gary Jones left Halifax on the bike he’ll be using for Prostate Cancer Canada’s cycling benefit in Toronto on July 13th.

Jones has successfully overcome thyroid cancer and prostate cancer and decided his life mission is cancer fundraising through cycling treks, including a cross-country trip.

He has already raised $19,400 of his 20 thousand dollar goal.
